    More about RockWool...

OK, so I found another local supplier of rockwool. I had a bunch of it delivered, and I put in the rear wall this weekend. This is Nasty, knarley, stuff! Even with wearing the enviro-suits, that stuff manages to find a way in. And.... Its really hard to cut. Anyone figure out a good method...

    Mineral Wool Density ?

A local supplier of mineral wool has 4" 8lb/cu.ft. available. This seems much more dense than what I thought 4" mineral wool was - I thought it was around 3-5lbs/cu.ft. Are there any problems going with the denser materal? The 8lb? Its for an exterior, staggered stud wall frame.

    Just added one of these:

Just added this API 550B EQ to my rack. I'll use it with my API 312 mic pre's. I got it off of e-bay for about half of what I've seen them go for. New gear! I'm excited!

    Am I correct in assuming...

...That the ONLY 8 channel AD/DA converter Lucid makes is this one: http://www.soniccircus.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=SC&Product_Code=2007 and its max sample rate is 48K? Or, to put it another way, Does Lucid make an 8 channel AD/DA converter with a 96K sample rate?

    "D-Sub" Connectors.

OK. Stupid question time: I'm looking at a new AD/DA convertor. I currently run a Steinberg 8io. 8 channels of 24 bit AD/DA conversion at 48k sampple rate. The physical I/O's on the back of the unit are xlr and/or 1/4". OK. No problem there; the output from my mic pre's are xlr. Hooks...

    Pick a stain

My patio cover for the studio is well under construction. Its all framed up. I still have to shingle it, but its framed, decked, and the roofing felt is on. On the "underside", I'm going to do a stained "bead-board". Take your pick, which one do you like best? 1,2,3, or 4? The colors are (1)...

    NTP 179 Series Compressors

Anyone have any experience with these compressors? I'm thinking of getting a pair racked. Probably the 179-150 or 179-140.

    Fresh Paint (jake)

I should do an update at John's site, but here's a quick teaser. This is for Jake: OK, see, it took me a whole day to do that! (I can see you shaking your head in disbelief! Stop it!) :D There's another side just like it, and the back part looks like a desert. :( See the vertical "stripes"...

Any studio builders want to share...

... what your most time consumming effort has been? I've spent the last 2 days caulking the outside, and I'm little more than half way done. :( Anyone else? What's been your single most time consumming effort.

    Bricks!

The mason's finished up today. Looks pretty good I guess. They acid washed the bricks and spilt some on the threshold to the front door. :( Guess I'll have to spray paint that. The siding guys are comming tommorrow to finish up the outside. With a little luck, I'll be painting this...

Anyone interested in a good old fashoned mic shoot out?

I recently purchased a pair of API 312's racked and powered by Brent Averill. To date I have placed recordings of my 7'-2" Boston Grand piano using the 312's and pairs of the following mics: SM57 SM81 MXL603 I'm not trolling for comments or critiques, I just thought these comparisons might be...

Can I get some IT help?

A little back ground: I'm not a complete idiot around computers;I built my recording computer, and its smoking fast!, but I am an idiot when it comes to networking or linking 2 or more computers. So, here's my delima: I have 3 PC's. One is used for the internet. One is used for video capture...

Does it make any sense to....

Some of my bricklayer's helper's are also licensed electricians. So I'm getting a couple more bids before I pull the trigger on that. (beside, as soon as the bricklayer's leave, I have to finish the siding, so there's some time available) Anyway, I have a good electrical diagram for wiring...

Is anyone here familiar with the "Nyquist Theory"?

A must read for anyone doing digital audio. http://www.iar-80.com/page25.html It basically states that a digital frequency can only be replicated by using HALF the sample rate. If anyone has other links, or other insight, I'd be interested in reading them.

Masons are as messy lot, huh?

3 weeks ago, the masons got started doing their thing on my studio. They're basically working the weekends for extra cash. I'm cool with that. The first weekend, they didn't do much; got the brick pallets broken down and placed around the studio and a few other things, nothing of much...
