Yeah...every mic has it's pros and cons in terms of frequency response accuracy....period. And so....most need some EQ depending on what you're recording. As for an "acceptable" sound.....that's quite subjective of course.....but if EQ can get you where you want to go....that's fine. and....if...
What guitar are you putting this into? As you likely know....the Strat sound comes from a number of elements...ranging from the trem block to the body and neck...etc...etc. Getting close to it will be difficult at best.
2 cents worth of.......good question.....elusive answer.
Mick
I liked it. Has a sort of BeeGees vibe due to the vocal. There's not a lot to nit pik.....but two things. The main vocal seems a little too up front and a little dry compared to the other tracks. The harmonies sit well and feel like they're in the same sound stage.....but the main vocal...
Yeah...as some have said already.....don't overlook the MXL V67 series. I've had one for several years now and despite other more expensive LDC mic purchases I've made......the V67 holds up well.
Mick
Yeah.....IMO just record it again and either change your technique enough to fit the mix or maybe even re-record the guitar parts. I think you've done as much as you can to try to fix your current track.......but it's not likely to get there. I also agree with Farview that a different bass...
Hi....I'm thinking that your software might be ok for what you're trying to do. You may just need to get more familiar with it before you get discouraged and move on to something even more complicated. On the other hand...your statement that the Rode mic made no difference at all tells me that...
What happens when you have your PC on but not your monitor screen? It's not uncommon for this kind of noise to be coming from the monitor. Or....just turn your screen on without the PC on and see what happens.
Mick
You're probably right about the noise being caused by the PC.....but.....it still might be easier to shield the guitar than to eliminate the PC noise. If you plug in headphones to your PC do you hear the noise? How about the speakers connected to your PC...any noise there?
Mick
Pardon my question please. I mean no insult....but are you familiar with manual editing of the wav....or the term "automation" as it applies to a DAW? If not....no problem at all....but it helps us to give you good advice.
I assume what you're doing is putting the song in Audacity......then...
Dick61......yup....that's what I'm referring to. By "track" I mean each separate song...not the individual original tracks you recorded long ago. Each song is now a wav file (track). You can apply the cleanup effect(s) to each song (wav file) as needed......a small spot...long area....more...
Hi Dick61....and welcome.
You're on the right track (no pun intended) but my suggestion would be to automate the "cleanup" effects / functions needed for every part of the tape / track / wav. Applying an effect like noise reduction on every part of the track / wav...and then another effect...
Yeah...that foam stuff is only good for cutting down some mid to high frequency reflections....inside........and not much else. Great space!! But....getting it to leak no sound as you're describing is going to be difficult. You mentioned that you lived there 7 years ago and it was very quiet...
I've tried MANY headphones over the years. I still have them all. They all have their pros and cons.....and price is not the defining factor in most cases. I used the Sennheiser HD600's for a long time.....until I was advised to try the AKG371's. I switched to the AKG's and they've really...
Today.....many....if not most music consumers spend more time using headphones / earbuds than ever listening on speakers of any quality. And...there are certainly some headphones that seem to be designed for the music professional.........for mixing...etc. That said......what does it mean...
Thanks guys. Going from metal to metal. I'll ask the wife to pick up some paraffin wax the next time she goes grocery shopping. Sounds like it's easy enough to melt a little and poke / cut out the pole holes.

Another dumb one from me. I'm changing the covers on a set of humbuckers from chrome to black. No big deal. De-soldered the covers and carefully removed them. The pups are, of course, completely wax filled on the sides all around and the wax is still intact and it will stay on when I put the...
