Can't Get Guitar to sound right when recording

Noooooo shit, lol. Worse still is when you're playing pretty well, but you make a small mistake in a take so you stop, delete, and start over... and then suddenly you do the exact same thing on 20 takes within the first 30 seconds because you've gotten inside your own head and can't play...

Can't Get Guitar to sound right when recording

Finally got a chance to listen to this - I got pretty heavily into the "shred" thing over time, but Cobain was the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place. Always happy to listen to some Nirvana. It could be some sort of a sampling rate issue, but it's happening both on my recording...

    RWRP middle pickup question

I'll keep going because a random Facebook suggested post made another connection today. the bulk of the events of the story are set in a fictitious town in the Allston/Brighten part of Boston called Enfield - the tennis academy is at the top of a hill in Enfield, and a halfway house most of...

    RWRP middle pickup question

I need to think about how this could fit in as a minor plot point (it's a tossed off line, really, the old motto for the school that the protagonist, a 17 year old tennis phenom, that his father founded). But, the best I've got on having only learned about the mistranslation this morning and...

    RWRP middle pickup question

I picked up Infinite Jest for the first time in ages - the current political environment is making a story featuring American experialism and a forced land gift of much of New Englad to Canada in return for the perpetual rights to use it as a toxic waste dumping ground, negotiated by US...

AI Vocals - I have to say I'm really impressed.

Yeah, this. I kind of stayed out of this thread for this reason, but, well... ...music is one of the most fundamentally human forms of connection and communication. It kills me that we're taking AI and using it to make illustrations and music and art, and not using it to free me up from all...

Can't Get Guitar to sound right when recording

It's just an iterative process - try stuff, pay attention to what works and what doesn't, read about what works for others who are after a similar sound (it won't always work for you, but it's worth a shot) and keep experimenting.I've done this since... man, very late 90s/early 2000s, recording...

Can't Get Guitar to sound right when recording

I'm notsure if we're talking about the same things, haha. I'm VERY happy with my current recorded sounds, and I'm hearing clear improvements the better I get at this and the longer I do it... but that dpesn't mean I don't want to keep working on making them even better, you know? Recent...

    RWRP middle pickup question

Neck trumps neck/middle for me... but only JUST.

    RWRP middle pickup question

You mean in position 2 and 4, where you have those sort of in-between "quack" sounds? I love those sounds, and as a guy with a Hendrix-themed username I'm really surprised you don't too.

Using two compressors, yes or no

Huge subject, lol. There is nothing inherently wrong with using two compressors. Sometimes, it's better to use two different compressors doing two different things (say, one with a high threshold and high ratio to lop off just the very transients, and then a lower ratio/lower threshold for...

Anyone experimented much with the impact of where in a room you set up a guitar amp?

Thanks! I think I can probably make it sound better, though - more careful micing, more careful front panel stuff... Heck, any time at all spent on the backing oistrumentation mix to carve out space for a pretty fat, midrange-y lead guitar osund (and this one's layered as hell - two tracks...

Anyone experimented much with the impact of where in a room you set up a guitar amp?

Thanks! Yeah, I mean, this is the maddening part of recording, right? I'm very happy with the sounds I'm getting, and if I'd played these quickly-tracked and essentially unmixed clips to myself 10 years ago, I'd have jumped for joy. But, can I make it better? Haha. It never ends. As it stands...

Can't Get Guitar to sound right when recording

Oh don't worry, I've been doing this a VERY long time, lol. I have a good sense of what I'm after and how to get it, and I'm probably 98-99% there, and from 90% 5-10 years ago that's a huge improvement. That last percentage point is where the madness lies though.

What are my chances of getting a hit in the Billboard Hot 100?

Kind of an old thread, but I just stumbled across it and, without getting into the details, do a lot of probability- and -stats based stuff for a living, and I think this is the angle that you need to think about. Observing that 1 in 3,650 songs that make it to Spotify charts on the Billboard...

Anyone experimented much with the impact of where in a room you set up a guitar amp?

And, what the hell, just so this isnt JUST a boring wall of text, this is about where I am now, this was a quick scratch reamp of the project I'm currently tracking, through the amp which you really can't see because it's in the corner directly behind me. Mesa Mark V 90 into a Recto 4x12...

Anyone experimented much with the impact of where in a room you set up a guitar amp?

Still wortking out studio layout stuff at my new place, and as I'm primarily a guitarist, this will be a priority. I'll cut to the chase and say yes, I plan to experiment, but I also wondered if this was something that any of you had spent some real time on. This is a closed back 4x12, so...

Another breakdown of a carpenters show track.

Not really a Carpenters fan but there's probably a decent amount that could be learned about arrangement from the process of deconstructing an existing arrangement - I'll try to come back to this on a slow day. If this is a space you work in much, ever worked with Sally Olsen? Headlines a -...

Can't Get Guitar to sound right when recording

The other problem of course is no matter how good you get at it, you're never going to be completely happy with your guitar sounds. :ROFLMAO: The sounds I'm getting these days would have blown me away even as recently as a few years ago, and I'm STILL not totally happy!

Mid-side decoding issue - Total silence from the two side tracks

Quoting this and not the rest on phase, since that I'm comfortable with - it's the same basic appeal of something like two matched mics in an X-Y position, where with their capsules essentially touching there's no pahse cancellation going on, yet you're still able to pan them hard L and R and...
