Could I get some feedback on a song?

I just mixed most of this song today and I was wondering if I could get a little feedback on it. What's good? What needs changing? We're just three 15 year olds, so don't expect perfection. Although we would like it to sound as good as possible. The Link -...

SB Live synth through Audiophile outs?

Is there a way to internally route the built in MIDI synth of the SB Live out through the analog outs of my M-Audio Audiophile 2496 card? Thanks, Scott

Downward slide thingy in many punk songs...how?

In a lot of punk songs there are quick slides right before a chorus or something. It's distorted and sounds a little bit like harmonics...but decending in pitch really quickly. A very obvious example is in "Up and Go" by the Starting Line...at around 0:10. In Fat Lip by SUm 41 there is one at...

    Dxi Metronome?

Is there a way I can set my metronome in SONAR so it is not midi and I can route it out of the analog outs of my audiophile? I have all the DXi plugins that come w/ SONAR XL 2 and I also have Kontakt. Is there a way for the metronome to play one of these soft synths....or am I going to have to...

Hearing Metronome, Recorded Tracks and What You are tracking at the same time?

This is a confusing question, but i'll do the best I can to describe my situation. I have an Audiophile 2496, SB Live, and a Behringher 1604A mixer. I want to be able to monitor the mix from the audiophile's analog outs but also be able to hear the SB Live's built in synth for a metronome...

    Soldering RCA Cable Ends

Has anyone else soldered RCA cable ends? I've got a bunch of the switchcraft rca ends. They are very small and difficult to solder. Does anyone have a technique for soldering these? Do you solder the wire to the inside or outside of the "main prong"? Thanks For Your Help, Scott

Clean tone is still slightly distorted

I just put a Seymour Duncan SH-8 Invader pickup (it's a humbucker) in my guitar, and even when i am playing with a clean tone it is still distorted and there is some crackling. Is this normal? I don't use this pickup a whole lot when recording clean tones, but I do use it occasionaly. Is...

    Cutting a Guitar Body

Today I was installing a Seymour Duncan SH-8 Invader pickup in my Affinity Strat and after getting it all soldered and wired up, I noticed it the humbucker didn't fit great and I am going to have to cut some of the wood between the places where the pickups go. There is a little piece of the...

I play punk. What guitar should I get?

Hey Everyone, I'm lookin' to buy a new guitar. I play a lot of punk type stuff and my old Affinity Strat just isn't pleasing me. I record through a J-Station and I am not thrilled with the tone; it's a bit fuzzy and thin, not the full distortion you hear in a lot of commercial punk cd's. My...

    Another Drum Micing Thread

How would you mic a set with these mics? 1 SM58 1 SM57 3 SM58 Betas Some Audio Technica Mic (really crappy) I have a Yamaha Stage Custom (snare, 3 toms, hi-hat, bass, crash, ride) and it's set up standardly. Controlling J-Station in SONAR via MIDI??

I'm thinking this won't work, but I figured I should ask anyways. What I want to do, is be able to control the J-Station in SONAR automatically while recording. I have the J-Station hooked up to the MIDI ins and outs of a Roland UM-1 midi interface. Ex. While recording the guitar part to a...

    1/4" vs RCA Cable

I've noticed many people using RCA cables (with RCA - 1/4" adapters on the ends) for all their patching. Is there some advantage to this? Is an RCA cable and 2 RCA - 1/4" adapters cheaper that a regular 1/4" cable? I've noticed cheap 1/4" cables seem to degrade over time. Do regular consumer...

    Thick Guitar

Hello All, When I want a thick punchy guitar tone I usually double my guitar part. Play it twice, pan one hard left and the other hard right. I've got this song I’m working on and it has a fairly tricky guitar part. When I double it...the discrepancies between the two really stand out in a...

    Soldering Cables

After looking at the prices of some of these top brand audio cables, I decided I would solder my own. I bought 100' of Mogami audio cabling and a bunch of Switchcraft 1/4" TS cable ends. I just wanna know how I should solder these cables correctly. I assume I should coat both the surface and...

    Punk/Emo Distortion Sound

I have a small Frontman 15 watt amp and a Tubeworks Real Tube pedal that I use to record. (It’s all I got) I'm not pleased with the sound I can get from this setup....I usually mic the amp with a SM57. Here is a link to a little blip I recorded. It’s just drums and guitar, no bass, so I know...

Micing Drums w/ Multi In Soundcard

I wasn't quite sure where to post this, but i figured this was the best place. I currently submix all my drums in my little Behringer MX1604A mixer and send the main outs to the ins on my studiophile 2496 soundcard. I can get decent results this way but I am thinking of upgrading to a...
