Down and dirty recording a live jam

Well finally got something recorded live. Just put a couple small dia. condenser mic’s in an X pattern smack in the middle of the small room we jam in. My intention was to be able to use the recording to improve our live performances and I think this serves that purpose just.

    Raise a Glass

Thank you Ray that’s very nice of you to say. I suppose as budding recording artists the greatest compliment can be that someone listens to your work and has a connection of some kind to it, and as music listeners I think we are all searching for that special part of a song that resonates...

    Raise a Glass

Thanks RD. The song lyrics were written and sung by Maurice Motut. This is also Maurice’s first venture into the role of producer as even though he has helped produce songs this one is his solely. He is going for a sound similar to Johnny Flynn, the detectorists theme song vibe. Guy

    Spotify streams

First of all, no unrealistic dreams of fame and fortune here ?. I just thought “ home recording “ would be a good theme for a playlist and is as genuine a theme as any other private or Spotify generated playlist. I’m simply asking that if anyone wants some of they’re material to be on my...

    Inhaler…Hardcore Punk about Asthma

I record to a Zoom r24. From there I drag the .wav file to a folder I have created on my external drive. When I open my song I’m working on in my daw I go into the folder with my .wav files in it and drag the ones I want into the daw for mixing etc. etc. I’m no expert on hard drives or computer...

    Inhaler…Hardcore Punk about Asthma

Ya I would tend to agree that that might be an appropriate way to fill up the vocal without adding to that lower frequency stew. Don’t forget to adjust the level if needed to keep that vocal in your face like it is now. ? Ya I use an external drive to store all of my project files on. Nothing on...

    Inhaler…Hardcore Punk about Asthma

Were you wanting that fuller range on the vocals? That’s definitely a production decision. And if you didn’t change anything it will still be really good. The vocal style is appropriate for the genre as it is now also ??

    Inhaler…Hardcore Punk about Asthma

Nice energy there for sure. Sounds balanced well, solo is tre cool. How about letting the vocals have their full frequency range, it feels like you’ve deliberately taken some of the lows and mid lows out to give them a low fi kinda sound. Could even let the song start with the low fi thing then...

Does anyone slice up their vocal tracks and level match each syllable or note?

I pretty much do the same as this. Most of the work is encouraging the singer over several takes to give a good performance. Inevitably I will have to make some volume adjustments before the rest of the plugs get used
