Room EQ Wizard - Dealing with modes

Definitely this! One other thing you can do is experiment with speaker placement and your listening position within your room. Take the whole equilateral triangle and move it closer or farther away from the wall and see how it sounds. You can really flatten out some of those nodes/nulls by...

I can't find the little button (thread)

Oh, right, I've had that happen before. If it happens again, look in the upper right-hand corner and see if it says "audio device closed". If Reaper can't resolve which audio device you're using, it won't start playback. If there's an audio device selected, in that same upper right corner...

I can't find the little button (thread)

The space bar is the default key to start/stop playback. When you use the space bar to stop playback, it goes back to wherever the play head was before playback. The enter key does the same, except it advances the play head to wherever you stopped playback.

    SM7B pre-amps keep breaking

This is a FetAmp: https://www.thomannmusic.com/thomann_fetamp.htm?ref=mobile And this is a Fet Head: https://www.tritonaudio.com/fethead They're both inline active signal boosters like the Cloud Lifter.

    SM7B pre-amps keep breaking

Could be a faulty XLR cable between the interface and the inline booster. Since those things run off of phantom power, there might be a loose connection or a short somewhere in that cable. I'd try different cables as a first troubleshooting measure.

Sweetwater Creation Station Rack Mounted PC's

Yeah, I've got a Corsair H150i all-in-one cooling a Ryzen 9 3900X in a be quiet 500DX case. I'm intaking through the front via the radiator, and exhausting through 1x140mm in the rear and 2x140mm on top. I'm idling around 30C and top out at about 75C under a full load when rendering or...

Sweetwater Creation Station Rack Mounted PC's

When I started running into heat issues in my rackmount case, I looked and looked for a rackmount chassis that was made for liquid cooling. There was pretty much nothing other than those companies that custom make cases if you send them a CAD drawing. I wasn't invested enough for all that...

    Extreme slowdown

High Definition Audio Device would be the integrated audio chip on your motherboard. NVidia HD Audio Device would be the audio over HDMI on your graphics card, and is reinstalled each time you update NVidia graphics drivers (although I think you can uncheck that box if you skip the "express"...

How to set up mic for livestreaming?

OBS has several built-in FX like a gate, EQ, compressor, and a few others. I *think* that it can host VST FX as well, but I've never tried it. But OBS is a great free way to livestream. It can interact directly with YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, and Twitter. It's certainly not perfect, and I've...

Sweetwater Creation Station Rack Mounted PC's

You'll love it when you upgrade next. An i5 from today's Intel lineup is a whole different world of processing power than an i5 from 2012. And from what I hear, the Apple silicon CPUs are pretty awesome as well. It's been a great couple of years for CPUs, there's hardly a bad one on the...

Sweetwater Creation Station Rack Mounted PC's

I think that the price is fair, accounting for it being marked up a bit for the labor of assembly and warranty. I could probably put together a similar system for a couple hundred less, but that stuff is fun for me and I understand that it's not everybody's cup of tea. It's a well-spec'd...

Is there any reason for me to upgrade from Scarlett Focusrite Solo?

Now that I've used about a dozen of the entry and mid-level interfaces from the common brands, I've been amazed at how similar they all are. There are differences in how they each sound, but those differences are really subtle. Converter quality and preamp quality is pretty consistent across...

HELP: How to choose voice acting mic based on *my* voice type? See sample file. Male, not a lot of presence, usu needs compressing to beat bkgd noise.

I just wanted to revive this thread briefly to make a correction to something erroneously stated above: The Lewitt 640 TS is, in fact, a stereo microphone. It's stereo, multi-pattern, and can change polar pattern in post-production with the use of their plugin. From Lewitt's website: You...

    Can anyone recommend a UPS?

How long have the batteries lasted for you guys with a UPS? I've shopped for them a few times over the years and I keep backing off from buying one because I get the impression that not only are the batteries hit-or-miss as far as dependability in the short term, but as they age they start to...

Does Alesis Gear have More Problems than Other Brands?

I think that when big brands make budget gear, it usually finds a pretty huge audience. There is probably a metric crap-ton of their various devices out in the wild. So if a tenth of a percent of people have issues (I'm just making that number up), then that translates to a lot of people...

    Retro synth sounds

Arturia has a lot of old analog synth emulations, including the specific ones that you mention. They sell them individually, or in a bundle, and they bundle a bunch of presets from all of them into the plugin called Analog Lab. If you catch them on sale you can get about a 50% discount on the...

    Is it just me

Game streamers have definitely contributed to the SM7B craze over the last several years. People start a streaming channel and mimic their influences like we all do with musical influences. I see them on a lot of video podcasts as well. I think they're a terrible choice for any video medium...

Splitter Cable, splitting 1 condenser microphone output to two inputs for Apollo solo usb

There's a much easier way to record both a wet and a dry signal using the UAD routing/console software by using an aux bus, applying the FX only to the bus, then recording both the input (dry) and the aux (wet) in your DAW. This video shows the technique nice and clearly:

What are good laptops to get?

With those requirements, you can get away with a pretty inexpensive laptop. Audio by itself isn't very demanding on a computer, even multiple channels of hi-res audio in each direction. (A Zoom H4n Pro can record 4 channels of 24bit/48kHz audio while playing back 2 more channels, and it's...

    Overloading CPU and Crackling MIDI

If you tap the Windows key and start typing "Power plan" you'll find the setting to choose a power plan and edit your current power plan. There are separate settings for running on battery and while plugged in, so you can set everything balls-to-the-wall while on AC power, and choose more...
