Something in the water - Indie/alt folk song

Thanks for the listen...I've only just mixed this and posted it before listening on a few other devices, car stereo usually being the determining factor. Gotta say I didn't like the reverb on my vocal much when I put it on there...too much and not completely inside the song...maybe the reason it...

Something in the water - Indie/alt folk song

Hi New one up here for...taken quite some time to get it anywhere near ready as there's a fair bit of piano/ synth strings work on this which I'm barely proficient at. As always I'd appreciate feedback on the mix as it's not been mastered yet. Cheers, Mark

    Tips on this mix?

I think this sounds great. I'm no technician but that vocal sounds just great in the mix aside from the 'Light on' refrain where it seems a little outside the mix. Maybe try a different reverb or a dab of chorus. Cool song and nice work. Mark

    Building a Fire

All pretty sound there..mix is good and vocals sit nicely. Nothing stands out for me as needing too much tinkering. I must say i preferred the style of the first part of the song but nice morph and that's just a taste thing... Mark

    CPU issue (i assume)

Yes the mutes do still have vsts running...I didn't realise that was still a drain on CPU. Cool, I'm working on it today so will have a tinker. Thanks for the pointer ?

    CPU issue (i assume)

Just got back to this and I'm not sure tbh. I've taken the voices using reapitch down to one but now the songs getting distorted when I try to add another synth track (using synth 1 vst). There's two other tracks using that vst without issue. The song currently has 28 tracks recorded with 8 of...

    CPU issue (i assume)

Hi I'm using Cockos reapitch to create a couple of additional 'voices' for a small section of a track I'm recording. The issue is that when that section plays, it is horribly distorted. I've read previously that reapitch is CPU intensive so I'm assuming this is the issue? Are there any work...

An old song I written but would like to re-record

Its got the makings of a fine tune that...but yes, something gets a bit messy when that lead comes in. Too busy in fighting with the vocal. Much to like though. I wouldn't describe the vocal as mumbly Mark

    Goose Stepping

Reason to Rhyme - any feedback appreciated

Great song...your voice reminds me of Stephen Malkmus and I like the low key warmth to this.

Further along with this - feedback welcome

Nice playing.. All a touch bright but I am with ear buds

How Can I Improve This Mix?

Great vibe on this and great voice. I think it would benefit from having that lead synth pulled back a touch or even cutting for brief sections to create some contrast. Really nice job though Mark

    She Is Fine

Another option to give you a fuller vocal is playing around with the pitch shifter a touch on a second take..my current technique is to have two good takes with the best upfront and the second way down in the mix. It adds a bit of depth without sounding obviously double tracked. Pan to taste.

Tried to write a perfect 3 minute single but it's 3.01

Nice work Jon...strikes me you wrote the last song of the album first. Thats got a lovely lilting melancholy to it ideal for the closing note. What kind of thing do you write? Mark

    Can you Hear me

Very smooth and well recorded. Vocals sit perfectly in the mix. Nicely done ?

Song - Kicking out the days

I get what you're saying and may play around with the beats a bit...pleased nothing stuck out as bad on the mix though. Cheers for the listen

Song - Kicking out the days

Hi, amongst changes made, I'm keen to know if I've taken vocal too high in the latest mix posted? Thanks, Mark

Song - Kicking out the days

You're spot on there and there was actually a vocal over the latter part of the section which i dropped as it didn't fit.....I've brought the guitar up along with a synth part to try and keep it interesting enough. I thought all the comments were really helpful and have incorporated most of the...

    Critique my Wall instrumental please

Overall that's a decent effort with nice playing....definitely some issue with guitar parts ending abruptly that needs editing at 1.09. Mark

    Don't Care

Good voice, well recorded and the overall mix balance is pretty nice...however some of those drum sounds are not so nice. I'm listening on decent open back headphones which handles bass ok, but even so they're pretty boomy. Mark
