I wanted to ask this question before I actually hook this stuff up together and blow something out. Reading the manual (yes, I'm one of the rare few who reads them) it has a warning not to connect XLR outputs from tape decks, CD drives, etc. if the onboard phantom power is going to be on. Now...
...songs that were created with tape, be it cassette or open reel? I know there is a mp3 section, but I figure that there could be a sticky for tracks done on cassette and one for r2r, or hell, even combine them. It might be something to spark the interest of the newcomers (as well as...
How do you guys avoid getting rack rash on your mounted gear? I've tried neoprene and nylon washers, but when I start tightening down the screws on the equipment, they just deform and sometimes don't help at all. Any suggestions?
I've got a newly acquired TSR-8 deck and have bought an empty reel from US Recording so I could use the deck in the meantime, but if anyone knows of a Tascam 1/2" reel that somebody is willing to part with, please let me know. Thanks!
Johnny
I don't have a head demag yet (yes I know, shame on me:o) and there is a Teac E-3 being sold locally. How well would that work on a TSR-8? Should I just drop the $ on a new Han-D-Mag?
I posted up a few weeks ago about a TSR-8 that I was looking to obtain. It had some minor issues (that I know of) and probably wouldn't be a bad machine to get. It's still available, and (miraculously) there are a couple of other TSR-8 decks for sale here in Houston. Never thought I would see...
There is one listed here locally for $400. Is that a good deal for a TSR-8? After talking with the guy, he is the 2nd owner and has put about 4 reels through it since he has had it. I haven't actually gone over to test it out, but from what he says it functions properly. I'm just hoping it...
...but I had an epiphany. Yes, it hurt like hell for those of you wondering.:D
I'm not sure if this idea has been tossed around or not, but here it is anyway. Would it be possible to compile a mailing list (for all parties interested) for sending cassette/open reel tapes around for everyone...
Has anyone come across this before? Anyone know what the purpose of it is?

BTW, what are the dimensions and weight of a m520 mixer anyway? I might be picking one up pretty quick and need to know what arrangements I need to make...
I'm working on starting a podcast which is mainly centered around unsigned bands, both locally and abroad. I'm aware that there are thousands of podcasts which throw in their respective local bands, but I have a different idea, but I won't get into that at the moment.
What's this have to do...
This isn't a major issue as it doesn't affect the output to tape, but I'm just curious what might be wrong.
When I playback on the 122b deck and listen with the headphones, there is an awful lot of hiss. I listened to the tape I recently recorded with it on my MR-2 deck and all sounds good, so...
Is there a cassette based portastudio out there that has phantom power? I've got the digital DP-02CF, but I'd prefer to stick with cassette since that's what I started a project with. I've got a 424mkII, but it doesn't have phantom power for my AT2020 mic, which I upgraded to recently.:p
With the influx of thread pertaining to mixing boards, I'm curious as to what sets them apart in terms of usage. Forgive my ignorance on this as I have only worked with two boards in my short amateur "interest". I've had a Mackie 1402-VlzPro and I currently have a Tascam M-2516. I've been...
I just received a Tascam 122B deck for a dirt cheap price. It's a little rough around the edges but should prove to be 100% after a good cleaning and a fresh set of belts. This thing weighs a ton! Well, it does compared to my MR-2 deck. It's nice having analog sweep meters again vs. LEDs on...

I stumbled across it while searching for info on my future 38 deck. Some pretty interesting info and photos. Might be the start of a great cross-reference between brands.
........$250 and a 7 hour round trip and probably 3 tanks of gas?
I know the 38 is an 8 track 1/2" machine that's built to withstand everything just shy of a nuclear blast, but that is about as much as I know about them. Should I hold out for a TSR-8 or jump on this one? What is parts...
You will have to forgive me as I'm new to the whole MIDI process. I've figured out to to get things done between my keyboard and the computer via midi. However, I have a Tascam M-2516 mixer, which has the capability of muting individual channels via midi and the use of "scenes". Just for...
I've got what might be a stupid question. On the rear of the 424 there is switching for the dbx (off, on, and sync). I know that sync is supposed to disable the dbx on channel 4 to prevent problems when syncing with other equipment. However, is dbx disabled in the stereo mixdown as well...
