    Headphone Output Impedance and Mastering

Interesting info here. I'll never knock anyone for doing some research and thinking something through, and I have, on occasion, mixed on headphones where the source material is repetitive or very familiar, but people often forget one fundamental issue and that's that your left ear hears the...

    Free and/or open source software : 2024

They have downloads for MacOS, Windows, and Linux! I don't think that was the case last I checked there.

    Welcome to Mix This!

This is the place to submit your multitrack sessions for our community members to take a crack at. That may be because you'd like to hear someone else's take for inspiration or direction, or simply because you'd like to give others the opportunity to get some practice. This is not the place to...

    Free and/or open source software : 2024

I've created this new sticky thread for free and/or open source software recommendations, as our old thread was started in 2009 and a lot of the links and recommendations are now long dead. I'll get the ball rolling with Name - Audacity. Function - Audio recording and editing. URL -...

    Getting started.

Member RedStone has taken the time to detail a number of things they learned when starting out in HomeRecording. Whether you’re a beginner or not, some of this info may be very useful to you. On the other hand, do you have your own experiences and observations to contribute? Maybe you disagree...

Adding USB hub to new PC

Your approach seems sound to me. Interface direct to motherboard ports is good. It shouldn't matter but no harm being safe. Doesn't sound like any of the rest should need power so I agree with Ujn. Unless you plan to use external drives or other devices that you know need power, a passve hub...

Luthiers and guitar fixers. What’s on your bench?

I'm not either but that's the way to do it ^. Learn on things you don't mind wrecking. I did the same learning to neck reset - I think I mentioned it recently. I bought an FG-180 in really bad shape for very cheap. If I'd made a mess of it, well, nothing was really lost. Thankfully, though, I...

Luthiers and guitar fixers. What’s on your bench?

Lovely stuff. Mine was just a one-job affair so not ideal scale or materials and, as you can see, I had to use little shims here and there to get things right, but the job got done and that's the main thing. I had the same experience with spool clamps. How much??...Where are my hole cutters?

    Let me see your studio.

It’s hard to believe we’ve been peering into each others home studios for nearly 22 years? Have you shown us yours yet?

Luthiers and guitar fixers. What’s on your bench?

I remember looking that up to buy one when I first considered making a guitar and finding StewMac selling a setup for something stupid like a grand. That sent me straight over to the scrap timber pile. :ROFLMAO: The only thing more satisfying that making something is making the tools to make...

Luthiers and guitar fixers. What’s on your bench?

That's exactly it. I made myself a setup for that a little while ago for a project I was working on.

A good test of small condensers

On the other hand it might suck and be useless, but you don't know until you try. ;)

A good test of small condensers

I take your points, Dave, and don't disagree but I think we're looking at this thing in two different ways. If Rob's struggling to hear differences between various SDCs in his previous live instrument recording comparisons, this could be a good tool, at least, for highlighting differences...

A good test of small condensers

I suppose my idea would come under a technical test more than practical, which Rob did say he wasn't really looking for. Still, while it might not tell you much about their usefulness for a certain instrument it might, at least, be useful in highlight differences. If nothing else maybe it could...

A good test of small condensers

What about playing a commercial track through the monitors and recording with each pair and identical placement? Then you could have the two recordings side by side in the daw and automate some instant flicks between them? No idea how it would come out but it might be interesting for a wide...

    Nothing

Hi Odi, Welcome to the forums. The songs may speak for themselves but that doesn't make for great conversation. Tell us a bit about your creations, and processes. Are there areas you struggle with or things you think other members might be able to help with? I see you've had some replies on...

Who still mixes with a console?

There's definitely something in that. I always mixed in the DAW but very often I'd turn the screens off and just listen. Some might think well what's the point, just don't look at it, or just pay attention to the music, but it's not the same. I'd recommend anyone who mixes ITB turn the screen...
