Just got a JCM602. First tube amp for me. Do different types of tubes give different performance in terms of tone? Do different types or brands last longer? How can they be tested at home? The distortion from this amp is good and thick, but can different tubes produce a more "fuzzy" signal...

Just got an Epi Les Paul Standard that seems a little "too warm". What's a good set up to clean it up just a bit? I like the muddy tones, but can I swap one of the humbuckers for something a little more defined? -Thanks

Does compression do anything to clean up or warm up vocals? I've used the on-board compression in Ntrack, but can't really distinguish any difference. I'm using a Samson R11 thru a Darla for the time being and vocals seem to clip in the highs. Any ideas?

Is there a mic around $200 that will be equally suited to a guitar amp as well as vocals?

Anybody had any experience with Crate's Stealth (GT-50)series or Peavey's Ultra or Prowler? I'm seeing some of these on Ebay that are in the budget ($350-$400). Looking for an all tube head or 2X12 combo. 50 watts would do down in my basement but obviously I could live with more. Any suggestions?
