Down and dirty recording a live jam

Seven on drums, one on guitar and three vocal mics. Then One bass and two keys DI inputs for a total of 13. At the low end (cost wise) a Behringer 1820 withan ADA 8000 yields 16 decent inputs

Down and dirty recording a live jam

I basically just tight mic up everything and hit record. In some instances, I used floor monitors and no headphones and just went with it. Not bad result but no punch ins as bleed would give that away. For the most part I got everyone comfortable with headphones, put my amp in another room, bass...

    Mics and Rooms- sensitivity?

Won't help anyone in an apartment but in my walk in basement I built a room within a room. The ONLY way I've personally found to keep me from bothering the neighbors and the neighbors from bothering me. It works

Preamps. What mic preamps are you using? Discuss them.

At the high end, Neve OPX1078's. VERY colored pre that I am now smitten with. The best thing that ever happened to my drum recording. The rest of my Harem is just inputs

    Tracking From Afar

My son lives in Texas and I'm in Missouri. So I set him up with 16 tracks of Behringer and Reaper and now we can do shit. He did the drums and keys, I did guitar and bass and one of my best friends sang ( I did some harmony). Here Comes The Sun

    Classic Snare

Toms I've great success with AKG C-3000's. Cheaper than a 57 used and with the right preamp, phenomenal.

    Transformerless SM58

I have a MD441 and about a dozen 57's, some 545's, and a couple of 58's. A couple of EV PL-80's. I even pulled a transformer out of one of the 57's that I've used on guitar cabs and snare. That's neither here nor there. 57's & 58's are around for a reason. They work and they work very well...

What do I need in a new computer?

Lots a of RAM and decent storage. Stay backed up on stuff you'd hate to lose. I need a new computer when my current computer won't boot.
  19. Track Rat

    All analog recording. Full band.

I listened. Not my cup of tea.
