this is supposed to be a rock thing....?

Hey SG, I remember seeing you on stage, and listening, at Jamest 6, all by yourself, in the early Saturday afternoon playing your 6 or 12 string. Kudos to you for continuing recording! What you have recorded thus far, is a solid foundation to begin upon.

Is it possible to get a good sounding song without using any EQ or Compression relying on Volume Balancing alone ? ( indie rock)

A lot of it is dependent upon your playing style. EQ can be very helpful to have your tracks sit in their proper space according to your liking. Compression, on the other hand, is a different nut to crack and learning how to to use it properly. I've come close a few times....accidentally.

How do you put your thoughts into lyrics?

I always use pen and paper to write lyrics whenever I'm inspired (hearing the music in my mind). I'll write the first verse and in the middle of writing a second verse.....I often find myself editing the first verse, crossing out words, replacing words, or totally rewriting the first verse, and...

Need to know what instrument they're using.

There is no such thing as a 10 string mandolin. Mandolins are a four note instrument, normally doubled stringed. Eight strings in total, but some mandolin manufacturers decided to add a third string to each course to those four notes. Why? I haven't a clue, but I do remember that my Dad once...

I bet nobody has one of these!

The "Making Waves - The Art Of Cinematic Sound" is worthy of viewing in order to understand how sound effects initially evolved. Today, there are computer libraries of tens of thousands of sound effects available to every sound effects guy or gal working on current day TV productions or movie...

    Yamaha aw16G

As Talisman stated, navigating the AW16G menu screens can at first be cumbersome initially, but eventually, operation becomes second nature. I've never been a fan of the effects the G affords, and I'm quite understanding of how difficult it is for new users to learn how to apply effects. I'm...

    Yamaha aw16G

I have an AW16G that I record to. It's true that the manual could have been better written, but once you get a handle on learning the machine, it becomes second nature to operate it. Kinda like riding a bicycle.

    For no one (Beatles cover)

I applaud it that you chose to record your cover recording of what I consider to be one of the best songs recorded by McCartney. Should you decide to re-record, my only suggestion would be to slow the tempo. You have a great voice! My favorite cover of "For No One".......Emily Lou Harris

    Full Fibre Broadband Installation

This thread is of particular interest to me because with or without my permission, come Monday morning, all 361 feet of my streetwise frontage will be invaded by a communications company excavating and laying fiber optic cable. They promise remediation in that they will reseed the lawn sometime...

It would be much worse if there was a Walmart store in Heaven. Totally ruins the images of Heaven I have ever imagined. Who knows! It could be much more worse. A Petco store on every street in Heaven, or a Home Depot, or a Lowes or a Target store, and much much more worse than anything......a...

    Mastering Thought for the Day

Perhaps I was mistaken. I was under the impression that it was you who had done the original mix and not a mixing engineer to whom you had hired who then passed it on to a mastering engineer.

    Mastering Thought for the Day

And then what? Tweak your original mix and have it mastered again necessitating more tweaking of the tweaked mix? That process could go on forever.

Ideas On How to Get The Mix Sound of Conor Albert ?

Oh no! Never, was I comparing you to anyone else. Over driven sound? That sound was always at the very edge of distortion whenever I listened to AM radio. It was...what it was. Difficult to hear lyrics.

Ideas On How to Get The Mix Sound of Conor Albert ?

AM radio is no different today than it was nearly 60 years ago when I would listen to Mad Daddy and Wolfman Jack. That's the lo fi sound I remember way back then whenever I laid in bed holding onto a small radio close to my ear. It was all there. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and others...
