It seems to me someone should of asked at least the genre or scope of what the OP meant by his post.
I'm just going to guess it was making beats, and he has likely either made some or moved on by now...
While we are necromancing an old thread, I will say that I have had no formal training. But...
You need a simple interface, a lapel or headset mic, and some shitty headphones will do. Looking at maybe 300 bucks for entry level stuff.
Don't stress over 100000000000000000000000000000000 cost. You just have to get what will work for you and your needs.
You will never make a USB gaming...
Welcome to the forum! Many of us here can give advice and also learn from you.
Just try to stay out of politics in Prime Time forum, and focus on your music.... LOL
Upload a clip for sure.
Do you have a 57 sitting around? I have never had any luck with heavy guitars and condenser mics. 421, 57, and maybe a ribbon for room sound. Never a LDC. The frequency range of a high gain amped guitar just doesn't need the sensitivity of a condenser mic.
+1 to Pinky's post!
I will add that not mixing at high volumes is something many ignore and that I had to learn. Listening at almost barely audible volume is a great way to hear things you miss when at higher volumes.
Oh, and reverb is your enemy if not used in small amounts. Less is more.
Since I didn't mention, love the vocals man! You remind me of someone...
Oh, and I would add the same small plate verb that you do to the snare to the toms. Same vibe.
Not sure what you are using, but the Soundoys Little Plate is my go-to for things like this. It was free for me, but likely...
Ok, let me try.
Turn your monitors way down. Like till you can barely hear them. What do you here? I hear a typewriter kind of click there on the snare. Like 5-6k? That is the frequency I would address. Also the same thing with the kick, but that is more like a 2k thing. The low volume shows...
Now we are into personal preference. :)
The snare is too loud now. So not sure it isn't more about placement and some plate verb now. Kick and snare are the first things you hear cutting through when volume turned way down. That is the test for me. It shows what is coming through. The snare...
Dig the tune! My only nit would be the snare sample. Or at least the way it's treated. Seems too thin for the mix. Its sounds like a snare drum being hit really soft so it is mostly the snares you hear and not the body. Hope that made sense.
Yes, anyone that wants quality recordings must have an audio interface. Nobody will ever give you advice that does not say that. Internal/onboard sound is sketchy at best. Even the ones that claim to be better, are not even close to ideal.
Does anyone actually 'bite' at the bot leads? I guess I just think/hope humans have more integrity and wit about them. Oh, but then who is 'them or they' anymore? Ugh.
I wonder if Steinbeg support is different in other countries. I had a support ticket in regards to C12 upgrade grace period that was responded to 3 times over the course of 24 hours. It was actually my fault in not using the right 'manager' program to get C12 working. It was my misreading I...
I think we will get along. I have no clue about protools and your gear, so sorry if I haven't been any help. Seems I am here as a support animal lately anyway unless you use Cubase so...
Again, welcome back! 8-)
