Mid-side decoding issue - Total silence from the two side tracks

One of the advantages of M/S is good mono compatibility. The other advantage is that you can adjust the "spaciousness" of the stereo image by adjusting the relationship between the M and S channels. That was evident in the difference between Porterhouse's first mix and my first mix. As...

Anybody else bought a guitar for what it looks like?

Yeah, that's very common on some Oriental guitars. My Peavey BXP 4 bass has the printed flame on it. If you use a 10x loupe, you can see how the image is made. You wouldn't believe how many things are "printed" these days. The tile that I used for my bathroom is a marble look... all...

Mid-side decoding issue - Total silence from the two side tracks

I don't think there is any more of an issue with M/S vs any other stereo technique. All the summing and difference manipulation is done in the electronic realm, not magically in the speakers. Checking on speakers goes for ANY mixing project. I will listen on headphones, but any decisions...

Does my audio still have room echo?

Are you trying to do voice over or audio books? I think regardless of the treatment, the key to getting voice over work isn't going to be whether you have bass traps or a lot of foam panels or just egg cartons on the wall. It's going to be your voice. Your enunciation, your timber and...

    Professor Wolff

I like the idea, but it really cries out for a "song" portion. The speech part gets lost, and honestly any message gets buried. You could do a verse/ speech / verse / speech setup, but for me just putting music behind his rant doesn't get it. Use the speech in place of a bridge or...

The German Martin Miller Band Videos

There are several groups that I like to check out. Lexington Lab Band and Lenoid and Friends are both really good. I haven't seen Martin Miller before. That's a nice rendition of a great song!

Anybody else bought a guitar for what it looks like?

I'm a bit of the opposite, I tend not to buy guitars with looks that I dislike. I like the looks of the guitars that I buy, but that's not the reason I bought them. I've only bought 3 guitars unplayed and I knew I liked those particular models of guitar. There are several guitars that I...

    multitrack tape degradation

We would just bring the demag in from a few feet away, move over all the metal parts, and then just swing your arm across your body. You can easily reach 3 or 4 ft before you turn it off. You don't need to walk across the room.

    multitrack tape degradation

I never worried about tapes losing anything. I have a demagnetiser, and would pull it out after a couple of months. As Rob said, cleaning with Isopropyl would happen weekly. I seriously doubt that you are wearing the tape down unless you're doing 6-8 hour sessions every day for months...

Mid-side decoding issue - Total silence from the two side tracks

I just finished all the yard work, and checked out the thread to see if there was any resolution. I pulled down the file, and my initial thought was that you were sending the track to a "mono" subgroup track where you can only pan left/right. That didn't turn out to be the case. It was...

Mid-side decoding issue - Total silence from the two side tracks

What might have been more useful would be to post the folder with the RPP and two audio files of a non working setup. That way we could maybe dissect the routing an look for an issue. We've already proven that the technique worked with the two files.

Mid-side decoding issue - Total silence from the two side tracks

Not an effect, it's a technique, as valid as X/Y, AB, ORTF, Blumlein, Near Coincident, or DIN.

Mid-side decoding issue - Total silence from the two side tracks

That's the trick with M/S. The CAD is in figure 8 mode, and you copy the file to a second channel and invert it. Look at the picture of the Reaper setup I put above. You can see the two "side channel" tracks are inverted. Those are both the same file. If you talk into the right side...

A question from a german songwriter

I gave your track a listen, and it was absolutely fine. Compared to some of the US raps, it was more understandable than what I hear normally. Also, when I see "rap", I usually associate it with hip hop with little to no music, just a bunch of percussion with and maybe an occasional couple...

Mid-side decoding issue - Total silence from the two side tracks

Sorry, that's where it is. That way I could confirm that the waveform was inverted, which shows in the picture. I shouldn't try to do things by memory! Rob, I think the difference is in the mix between the M and S channels. The S channels by themselves are quite hollow...

Mid-side decoding issue - Total silence from the two side tracks

Porterhouse, it was definitely stereo. I used my headphones and your voice moved from side to side. I took the same files and put them in Reaper and got the same result. Here's my mix, and the setting in Reaper. I inverted the file by going to Track Properties, and phase invert. This...

Mid-side decoding issue - Total silence from the two side tracks

How to you get the files from your R16 to your DAW? I always just pull the SD card from my R24 and copy the files directly to the computer. I have never bothered with using the USB connection, but it shouldn't make a difference. I might try doing an M/S with my R24 later. I can't see...
