Joe Meek SC2 Question

Really? sadly, most of our mods were ordinary members. I just don't agree. That doesn't matter, because if you love them that's good enough for me - but very often brand newpeople with no or few skills join and get a bit carried away when people post the glowing posts - and as I have always maintained, many people new to compression cannot hear the things you are hearing. Compression is a eureka moment - suddenly you hear it.

Sorry you didn't like my post, but both sides of a coin help people. One of my repeated tasks is looking at a mixer in a venue, and seeing virtually everything with the compressors turned on. If I hear the common muddy mess from the kit and guitars and bass. I often go across and release many of them and the sound improves. The youngsters were told that you comress as a matter of course, not just when it's needed. when tghe dynamics suddenly come back, often you see them do a wow!

My 'job' is 100% to moderate, and 100% to give advice. If mods cannot participate, not a very nice job, to be honest.

If you spend some time reading old posts you will ALWAYS find contra opinions. That is healthy. It also means we are all up for scrutiny.

Thanks Rob. Another poster from a different forum:

"I use my SC2 exactly the way Joe describes. I buss my kit to a stereo sub with the SC2 inserted. I really pump the SC2..then mix that in just under the original mix. Really adds punch to the mix! I sometimes do this with heavy gtrs as well!"

I guess we all just don't know what we're talking about. Joe Chiccarelli???? Ted Fletcher????????!!!!!!!!

I'm not new to compression, I'm just honest about this unit.

They are both good bat eared engineers - doesn’t mean that the units good or bad though - it’s just what they like - Mutt Lange doesn’t like them - but what does that mean?

Bat eared engineers and legendary designers tend to like and design things they think sound good. I'd like to know Mutt Lange's reasoning for not liking the SC2. Just out of interest. Can you provide a link to where I can read it?

I heard it from his engineer Mike Shipley - he thought they were too slow and too colored for what he was doing at the time - which was Def Leppard - and Shania Twain.

I'll take your word for it, and that's fine if that's what he needed...however, I prefer proof and evidence. Not second hand information, so that's why I asked. Those are exactly the things I love about the sound of it, specifically on drums. It really has a wonderful sound imo...and totally different that my other units.

You can see, a lot of people agree that they love the sound of it as well, and use it similarly.

Who's talking about forcing anyone not to use it? I just stated an alternative opinion.

Nowhere did I say anything of the sort about you 'forcing anyone not to use it'. I don't know where you came up with that.
