Hi,

first - I'm a guitarrist, not a keyboarder... Sometimes I use a very old Akai S01 Sampler for some effects on my recordings. I bought some cheap Akai S1000-Sample-CDRs at Ebay. The format will work with my Akai S01, that's for sure. But does anybody here know a simple tool for copying the samples from cdr to a floppy-disk?! The Akai S01 ain't got SCSI - no chance to read the samples directly from the disk. Any ideas?

All the best from Germany

Are the CDRs in Akai or PC format? If Akai, then your PC won’t be able to read them without additional software, like CDXtract.

Once you can access the samples, you can use a free utility, AkaiDisk, to write the samples/programs to an Akai formatted floppy. I’ve used it with 98 and ME without problems, but I’m not sure it will work with XP.

You can find links for both applications and a bunch more Akai related stuff here:

Yep, I've got both programs - the demo of CDXtract and Akaidisk. It's no prob to write wav-files via Akaidisk to floppies. But I can't save the samples (which are in Akai-Format) directly to floppy with CDXtract?! As far as I know it doesn't support copying in akai-format from CD to Floppy? The only way I know is to convert the files from CD to wav and reconvert them via Akaidisk to Akai-disks. And that's a lot of work for a hand full of samples, and I don't know if there ain't a bit of loss. Can the full-version of CDXtract write directly to floppy in Akai-format?

Thanks for your support

I agree, it’s a convoluted process and no, CDXtract can’t write to Akai floppies, but I don’t have the latest version, maybe the newer one can.

Didn’t think of it yesterday, but there is another option that can do everything you need, Chicken System Translator. I’ve never used it, but (based on the specs) it can handle the conversion and writing to an Akai formatted floppy. Not sure if the free/demo version will do it, but it’s worth a shot.
