Variety of Sound plus crashing Windows

I had some occasional problems where the DAW only crashed with the VOS plugs. This was in a Windows 7 64-bit environment with Pro Tools 8LE and the FXpansion RTAS-VST wrapper software; but since changing to Reaper 64 on the same system I haven't had any problems at all. I haven't heard of plugs...

    Harrison Mixbuss?

I do think that the eyes can affect the ears -- just like how people eat with their eyes. So, I hope I'm talking objectively here. I'm a Reaper user and haven't used it a lot but there is some sort of colouring at work under the hood in Mixbus. It seems hard to clip the channels -- they tend to...

    Ny comp on drums

I usually set-up at least two compression busses on my mixes. One is always solely for the drums and percussion. I put other elements of the mix through separate comp busses -- vocals especially.

    mixing my own voice

Check out all the Variety of Sounds plugs -- they have a range of comps that are all useful. I like the Thrillseeker LA. I'm also a big fan of the Thrillseeker VBL which is an old-style broadcast limiter and is very nice on a bus. They have several others too. If you want to get into heavy...

    mixing my own voice

My rule of thumb -- roll off the bottom end at about 80-100Hz and put a subtle high shelf boost on at about 10kHz. Then do some sweeps through the midrange for anything nasty or nice -- pull out nasty stuff boost nice stuff. Around 1kHz can sound harsh but depends on the mics and the recording...

Which software you use to make audio recording

Reaper -- not listed in the poll because this thread started 13 years ago.

    vst plugins

Yeah I have some stuff from there. The other good one is VST 4 Free. Ask yourself what you need and try some stuff out. It's tempting to just download everything but you can end up with so many it becomes unmanageable. I really recommend Variety Of Sound plugins -- get all of those, they have...

    Budget DAW recommendations

Yeah, I couldn't say there is anything better than Reaper for the price. It's one super-powerful piece of software. I recently moved over from Pro Tools and just finished my second song on Reaper -- it has nearly 50 tracks on it. On the same machine, with a Pro Tools 8 LE + an Mbox 2, I could do...

Free eventide ultra channel plug-in until july 8tth

Yeah. It's a really good plug. I've already cut a track with it. It's great on vocals. The preset library is huge too. You do have to be online once just to install it after that you don't need to be. Also on Windows the default install path is crazy and you should definitely choose where you...

    vibrato in rock/metal

Dio was great at it. Some of the Dokken material has a good amount of it going in. iron Maiden too. Drama has always been part of Classic Metal and it's a technique that helps to emphasise that. It does make auto-pitch correction difficult but manual correction software allows you to leave it in.

Free eventide ultra channel plug-in until july 8tth

You have to download and install the Ilok app and set up an Ilok account if you don't have one, but this plugin will be $249 after July 8 -- so get in there. I downloaded it today and it seems to be a very cool plug. Deal of the year. I don't have enough posts here to create the url link but...
