Ways around latency when tracking while "top-down" mixing

Hey. I personally would just hit the delay compensation button on the top left, lower my buffer size, track, then readjust when i've tracked what I need. The button does it all for you.

    King Bloom - Overgrown

Havn't posted here in a while, here's a quick mix i did, i thought the bass line was pretty cool but didn't have enough punch in the original mix so it's a bit heavier in mine!

Can you listen to my songs? (youtube links, final product)

I'd say the guitars a very very widely panned, i would've brought them back inside a little bit, the synth part towards the middle is a bit loud, like it's really popping out hard from the mix, i would've tried a different approach to make it "in your face" without poking out too much. I...

    House Mixing Techniques

What comes to mind is side-chaining the kick with some constant element like some strings or guitars maybe,

Cubase - project file not vaid

If you wanna make sure project files work from one place to an other 100% of the time a working solution is to export everything to a multitrack and work from there... But then you wont be able to drag along the plugins and their settings :/.. Or get real versions, these tend to be more stable : )

    "A serious problem has occured.."

I used to get this "serious problem" error in the past, it was faulty plugins. Its kinda long and sad to do but i'd suggest a clean re-install of Cubase :/ (Im pretty sure some from VST4Free were causing those bugs )

    Mixing with pink noise?

gated pink noise on a snare is a wise idea, or backing up vocals with low level white noise to make some kind of rising, sure if you're doing rock the later probly wont help but making a snare brighter with pink noise always is a possibility.

How much dynamic range for EDM?

you want big silences so the kicks and subs blow your face away. You do this by squashing those when they happen i'd guess

Snare Drum Hurts Ears (sample included)

Reference your track you'll find a safe spot this way, if the snare really hurts your ears it must be either cause your monitors/workspace are boosting the snare's frequencies too much or cause you're listening too loud (ear fatigue anyone?)

    Refrence Tracks

I go by Pinky's sayings, i rarely use reference tracks while working, i'd compare at the end of a mix with similar tracks thought. Lately im working with more pop projects so anything in the billboard is usually good to go. If im working with modern metal i like Periphery's stuff or Polyphia's.
