    Hearing loss

I've listened to some files form other sites, including sweeps etc. They seem to confirm that I hear nothing above 11 or 12 kHz. I also have a notch at around 3.5kHz and another one in one ear around 7kHz. A while back I was eq some eazy drummer cymbals and adding a shelving eq around 12kHz and...

I can't honestly say I can tell the difference between those two.

Laughing face for the interview story, not you losing some hearing.

Thanks Rob. It sets my mind at ease that I'm not actually missing much in that area.

    Hearing loss

Not sure if this is the correct forum to ask this, but it seems the closest. I have taken the SoundGym hearing test and the highest frequency I can hear in both ears is just above 11kHz. I guess one good thing is that both ears have roughly the same range. I was just wondering if anyone else...

    Long Way Down

Thanks Steve. I'll give that a try. Like you, I don't do much soft singing, but definitely worth a go. After the vocal used I did do another vocal which was more gritty, but didn't work and so went back to the original used, so maybe I should try going the other way as you suggest.

    Long Way Down

I've taken on board some of your ideas and done a new mix. Would appreciate some feedback. Thanks in advance. LongWayDownMixVersion12 by Jez Davis | Free Listening on SoundCloud

    Long Way Down

Thanks, I'll check them out and have a look at the bass again. I've changed the kick and snare and that alone seems to have mad a world of difference. ---------- Update ---------- Thanks Bruthish.

    Rise Up - Original

Just to add, as I wandered into the Kitchen to get some crisps (or chips as I believe you might call them) I found myself quietly singing the chorus. Always the sign of a good hook.

    Rise Up - Original

Could be an out-take from Black Sabbath's Sabotage. I like the guitar sound. I feel you are right about the kick. With it being so prominent it kind of makes the guitars and bass seem smaller. Drums overall could probably go down a tad. The whispery verse vocals sound good, but the chorus vocals...

    "Insignificant" (final mix)

Very nice. From what I remember your work is always pretty good. Personally the snare, hi hat and cymbals I'd take a bit of top of maybe, or just down in volume. Glad I'm not the only one who ends up with more than one final mix :)

How does it sound ? Help a newby...

A nice piece. I would just reiterate what has been said above. Not extra helpful, but another opinion for what its worth. Noise is always a problem when recording acoustic instruments, I often underestimate how long to sit quiet before starting and leave at the end before moving about, and then...
