    pioneer ct-606, cassette deck hiss?

I've got some really good cassette decks (Nakamichi) and some boss pre-amplifiers and amplifiers to send the sound through, but I wouldn't use them for recording live souces. Honestly, you're fighting a losing battle. Try the computer route. You'll get better sound out of a stock soundcard.

    most underated song writer

Hmmm . . . a very subjective subject, with many worthy people. I'll go with Jeff Tweedy, Andy Partridge, and Freedy Johnston.

Altrock ballad that I'm writing. Need feedback.

There's nothing wrong with the vocal--it's that kind of song. Just automate some of the areas where the level drops off. Sure, the snare is a little thin, but it's a marked improvement from where you started. The bottom end is actually pretty good. Isn't it fun fun fun to do that, wring a good...

    Recording Levels

. . . same goes for our practice/recording space, where the Scarlett 18i20's analog outs are routed through a couple of mixers and a patch bay to give 5 performers their own mix. I wouldn't even attempt a software monitor here, what with 12 mics and 5 line level inputs going into the laptop, an...

    Recording Levels

I use hardware monitoring exclusively (except whilst using MIDI instruments, but that's a different story) and always have. I run things out and through a 16 channel desk (Soundcraft GB2R 16) from where I can mix incoming and outgoing with ease (that is, the monitor signals--the actual audio...

I can't wait finished product! what do you think?

Needs some monster backing vocals, and what others said about the drum kit is correct. I think I'd pick up the tempo overall too.

The vocals are too low in my band sound recording. Any advice? VIDEO LINK INCLUDED

I'm hearing the bass--its booming, though. Still, it's audible, and just needs a little adjustment to sound fine. Go lefties! The recording actually sound pretty good, all things considered. If you multi-track it, it's gonna sound a lot better . . . .

    Like Spinning Plates

I used an old freeware plug called "Meltron," though I don't think it's around anymore. I'm also fond of another freeware plug called "Redtron," which has some great presets. I do everything in Samplitude. Do you track vocals dry, or with outboard/plugins? I always send vocals in dry...

    Like Spinning Plates

I get what you're doing here, and it sounds really good, except. I think. for that buzzing in the right channel from the vocal, the delay tail of the processing, it sounds like. That sounds very un-vintage. Also, the string/synth gets a little buzzy too, at the end. It's a different kind of...

    Running stuff through behringer 1202FX

Can you be a little more specific as to what you are exactly trying to do?

    Help with "drowned vocals"

Re-record the vocal, and make sure things are as perfect as possible. The amount of time you spent trying to fix the unfixable would be better spent working on a new recording of the vocal.

What is the most essential knowledge I need?

You need to know how to listen, and a good room helps too.

Exporting: very newbiesh question I suppose

You need to edit that noise out. You likely have something going on at the beginning of the song that is making that noise. Sometimes you don't hear it whilst playing the song in the software, but it shows itself in the mp3 file (I've experienced this). So, go into the software and use...
