The voltage is too high! You need a 9V, center-negative DC powersupply, with at least 200-300mA output. Your 12V psu probably fried that diode.

That's most likely because people are describing either the cheaper, silver, newer e609 - which apparently sounds thin (i haven't tried it yet) or the older, black e609, which sounds quite thick and warm (I own one of those and even recorded a jazz-kickdrum with it with quite nice results.)...

I hear similar opinions more often. Goes to show that cheaper is indeed worse... The black e609 is anything BUT thin/sharp/harsh sounding. Thick, warm, meaty, even 'clouded' come to mind, that's why it can complement an SM57 so nicely.

It could be that the people that love their 609's, are referring to the older, more expensive "black" type, instead of the cheaper silver type. Supposebly the silver one is more bright or even harsh/thin. I have an older black one and it's a nice complementary mic for an SM57 as it has more...

Well, tried some tracking with the AW2400 today... that machine sure is way more cumbersome/difficult than the Korg D16. I still haven't found out yet how to audition extra input tracks while playing back earlier recorded tracks. For me, this is a mandatory function for rehearsing... :(
