I know many people who just don't have the nerv to listen to a whole instrumental. Of course they will listen to the same song with vocals. So from that point of view: yes vocals are the most important thing. :D

The drums are banging, guitar sounds a bit stock-ish but is def allright. I like the vocal-shouts and you got alotta sound fx going on here and there (like the hit sounds). Also the hook part is great. But you might wanna cut off the guitar intro and just start this beat with the sweep sample...

If you wanna start out I would recommend this: - Get a Mac - Get Logic - Get a Masterkeyboard - Get good monitors (Yamaha NS-80 are good for hiphop on a budget) - Get a good interface (like Digidesign Mbox, comes with ProTools LE btw). If you got any questions, just PM me. :)

That might be very much for a beginning. But one thing's for sure: If you can properly mix one of those genres, the other's will work for you aswell :D
