Ah the joy of machines!!!
It seems like you've checked a lot of stuff already. There are a couple of things to consider.
1. Bad power supply. I know it may seem like your power supply could not cause this problem, but it can. A bad power supply can cause a host of seemingly unrelated...
I just tested loading Reason into an aux input track in PT 8 and it works fine as far as playback. I would say just load up your project into PT and then try adding reason on an aux input track.
There are quite a few things to consider when buying this stuff. The two most important are 1)Which are you most comfortable with and 2)What are you going to be doing with it. Some would probably try to start an argument about summing quality here, but having tried tons of DAW software at this...
I think that's the best idea. I do everything but guitar, bass, and vocals in Reason and I usually do 90% - 100% of the midi work in Reason before I open my DAW to record vocals and guitars. This workflow works well for me plus I think the summing engine in SONAR will probably end up haveing...
Is there some reason you can't use rewire? Rewire would allow you to bring each track from reason into its own track in sonar without any exporting/importing at all. Even failing rewire a good idea would be to export each reason track individually and bring it in as a separate track in SONAR...
you can cut out or mute the sections between lyrics if you really need to. Ideally when you record a singer you need to make sure that they are aware of their breathing, that way it will minimize the need to worry about it in the first place.
It sounds like Riffworks may be right for you. Follow the link and you can download the T4 version which will give you essentially a 4-track version that doesn't expire. It has a module within it caled instant drummer which is designed to give you access to easy to use yet human sounding drum...
REAPER is great. It is probably not the easiest DAW out there but it is every bit as good as Pro Tools, Logic, SONAR etc.
If you are a guitar guy, Riffworks is easy and awesome. N-Track is probably the easiest DAW I've used.
Among professional studios in the US, Pro Tools HD has been the most common platform for the last several years. That is why they call themselves the industry standard. However this seems to be changing slowly, more and more studios are moving to native solutions now that PC's and Mac's both...
Wow. There are a lot of questions to ask when determining these things. I am assuming you are looking to record your own projects and possibly other people. There are a ton of options and some of them are more suited to certain tasks and situations than others.
I would start off by...

PT 8 can easily do what you want, but then again so can just about any DAW software. These days the competition is mostly about features like plug-in support, delay compensation, etc. Also, with Pro Tools you are limited in your choices of Audio Interface to either Digidesign hardware or newer...
Most "pro-sumer" sound cards will not have any 1/8" jack. They will have xlr or 1/4" or phono plugs or all of the above. Most onboard and basic pci soundcards (the kind running 1/8" jacks) are not constructed to record well, just to play back well. A entry level audio interface from any...
I've never used ART products so I can't be certain, but in my past experience almost every noise issue I had was related to the Pre I was using. When I first started messing around with recording I was using the computer mic on a Soundblaster card, terrible built-in preamp and LOTS of noise...
