Problem recording the right channel with USB Mixer

Hi! I have recorded more than 400 weekly broadcast radio shows with 2 mics, a high quality XLR "Y" cable that ends up as a stereo mini plug and a Sony digital recorder with a "line in" setting. Because I am recording talk, not music, automatic volume control is fine. Not only is it a highly...

Should I Buy a USB Microphone?

USB mic found a home in the podcasting community. I record a radio broadcast talk show with XLR mics and a recorder and transfer the file to a PC. But I do have a YETI USB mic to easily add a few comments, etc., without getting out the whole recording rig.

Insulation Causes Cancer? Will a Barrier Help?

If you are concerned, buy a HEPA air filter and turn it off when you are recording.

Solved FOCUSRITE 2i2 3RD GEN, MY COMPUTER'S INTERNAL SOUND CARD AND RECORD QUALITY

About those 4,000 Where can we hear the first two recordings and then the new one? Will you be making them available NOT on CDs? Being in the radio biz, I get curious. Thanks! John

Old reel to reel recordings versus cassette recordings

FYI, there are a number of programs that can reduce "his" and also let you enhance tones, etc. A free one is Audcity. Some time spent after digitizing may produce some great results.

    Home studio dumb question

I record syndicated radio shows professionally and always record to a recorder first, then copy to PC for editing. My PCs are OK, bu a fragmented HD, a cheaper SSD, etc. can "stutter" and you can't fix it. A dedicated recorder is designed to record reliably. I can't go back for a second...

    Setting up a recording workstation

I am pretty good with audio (not MIDI) and just a toddler with video. I was doing some video (mostly stills chained together) with a business PC for a non-profit at their offices and it crashed any time it got close to 20-30 minutes. Most PCs for business share the PC memory and suck it dry. A...

    You know what is weird

It's a bit like podcasting. You can do a decent podcast with a mic, a digital recorder and then an audio editor on a laptop. But I see folks building studios that may look great, but cost $$$$$ and are not needed, at least until they are well established.

I'm sorry in advance, but please tell where should I improve.

I'm not a musician, but I've done more than 400 (pre-recorded) radio shows heard on two Catholic radio networks. I think the idea of recording the instruments separately will give you more chance to "nailing" the vocal part to your liking. I think your voice suits the song well. Maybe next...

Newbie with microphone issues and questions (please help!)

I use a Blue Yeti for a lot of voice work, which has a volume control on the mic. HOWEVER, I'd click on your little speaker icon and bring up "settings." There are a number of sliders and one may be too far down. There is also a "mic boost" that will raise the volume. But I'd simply check...

    New Laptop

A bit off topic, but funny. This is not a musician thing, but you may laugh. I host/produce a syndicated radio show that runs on a couple of networks and for which I am happily paid actual decent money. The standard in the radio biz had been Adobe Audition, with the old versions 1.5, 3.0...

    Paranoia -feedback request

I liked it, even if my age demo (71) is probably not the target. Could the vocal be a bit louder, as it is a "message" song, so the words need to be heard. It would be to do a non-video version where some of the printed text is quickly read, perhaps with some overlaying of the words (just not...

Mastering a song that runs into the next

I'm trying to understand this in the simplest way possible from a non-musician point of view. So far I see "Generally you master an entire album as one thing" a then "Tracks are nearly always mastered independently." Glad we all agree! I have mixed intros and outros for commercial radio for...

Need help making my office audio recording worthy

How often do you need to record? You might consider some panels, simllar to those used to make cubicles, that you could set up close to you and take down later. That's what I use in the upstairs of my 100+ year old farm house. This would likely work for voice-only, as you don't need room for...
