This might be a stupid question, but are an expensive microphone expensive to manufacture, and a cheap microphone cheap to manufacture? Or, is it that when a manufacturer comes up with a new microphone that sound great, they put a "great" pricetag on it? I dont know, I´m just curious.

I went to a studio and tried out an U87ai that I was offered to buy second hand. I brought a friend with a good voice -and a strong as well- so I had to turn on the pad. To my surprise, the sound totally changed. All the clearity and brightness disappeared and the sound became a bit muddy...

I´ve got an offer to buy one U87ai. It´s supposed to be bought approx. one year ago. Is there anything I should look for or CAN look for, or is it just listening to it that matters? Happy for answers! popkid, Sweden.
