    normalize vox?

Good reminder, I'll try some LF cut.

    normalize vox?

Thanks. I get the proximity effect if I'm closer to the mic.

    normalize vox?

Thanks again for all the advice. I do use a dynamic mic + fethead. I sold my ribbons just for this reason. I think part of it is that I don't have a strong voice & need to compensate afterward.

    normalize vox?

Great ideas, thanks! I do some ducking already. By level, I meant a small waveform + too quiet in relation to other tracks.

    normalize vox?

I never seem to get enough level in recording vocals. I don't want to get any closer to the mic so I've been normalizing lately. The noise floor doesn't bother me after it's normalized. I know compression helps somewhat but a little bit goes a long way. Is there a better option? Thank you

Does CbB allow installation of our own effects plugins?

Yes it does. Go to the plug-in manager & scan the folders where you keep yr plug-ins.

    vintage ribbon mics

2 Beyerdynamic m500n (C) hypercardioid mics, excellent bordering on pristine condition. Used only in a nonsmoking home studio. Includes cable, case, and Shure low to high Z transformers. One of the cables has some electrical tape wrapped for reinforcement where it was wearing a bit. $300...

    Cab Lab

Has anyone used Fractal's free DAW plug - Cab Lab? It's a mixer that can load 4 IR's & blend together. just wondering if this is a rabbit hole I don't need to go down. Thanks. https://www.fractalaudio.com/cab-lab-4/

    ducking vs unmasking

Great answer, thanks. The Izotope unmask is some kind of dynamic EQ.

    ducking vs unmasking

Maybe unmasking is only generic to Izotope - it is recognizing frequencies that maybe interferring with each other and filtering out those frequencies on one of the tracks or busses so the other is more clear (as opposed to lowering the volume level).

    ducking vs unmasking

Does anyone ever use both together for a vocal track to come through over instruments & pads? Is ducking on a vocal track more for spoken audio? Any thoughts are appreciated.

    normalize vox?

I think I can work with many of the suggestions posted here and get some improvement. A lot of it may just have been my concepts about level and I will try lowering the other faders and getting my volume in mastering. I go light on compression, a little goes a long way for me.

    normalize vox?

Good point! Hearing is selective also and I probably tune out ambient noises in my apartment that a microphone will pick up. There's a similar issue in photography, my eyes or my vision is selective but the camera lens is not.
