    The "Jeff Lynne drum sound"

I've heard a few interviews with Bev Bevan. He's mentioned a few times that he almost always double tracked his drum parts on all the ELO albums. That is to say, he'd keep all the drum parts pretty simple and then overdub the same part again played exactly the same. Certainly that would...

Can't burn CD's of Audition tracks

Does the trial version actually have burning capability? I wonder if that's not your problem...

Which cassette tape brand do you recommend?

Ah, the memories... ... of my original thread... AND the time when I was using cassettes. I've been doing all of my recording on my laptop via Cool Edit Pro 2.1 / Adobe Audition 1.0 for the past three years. My 488 MKII is now an audio mixer... That said, I still want to have high quality high...

    AA1.5 or 2.0 ?

Is it possible to upgrade from Audition 1.0 to 1.5, or do I have to go directly to 2.0? I have 1.0. I'm not sure I need 2.0 presently but would love to get hold of 1.5.

Audition 2.0 officially announced and available

Wow - thanks for the info! It'll have to be 2.0 then. Honestly though, I'd be miffed too if I'd purchased 1.5 for $69.95 + tax and then had to pay another $129.00 to upgrade to 2.0. when others could go from 1.0 to 2.0 directly and save $70.00. I wonder what the reasoning behind that is.

Audition 2.0 officially announced and available

Upgrade from 1.0 to 1.5 to 2.0...? At the risk of sounding non-intuitive and just downright dumb, the upgrade to 2.0 is from 1.5, correct? I ask this because unless I am just not seeing something that is right in front of me, I can no longer find any reference to the download for 1.5 on the...

Starting the recording right where you select it

This is what I do if I want to add another track to an existing song: Insert the song into the multitrack (Track 1). *Open "Edit", then "Insert Blank Wave". This should appear in the multitrack as Track 2. Arm Track 2 to record. Highlight an area in Track 2 that is close to where you'd like...

    Novice questioning 424 vs. 488

Go with the 488 MKII I've used these machines extensively as well as a variety of four-tracks, and I can tell you that there is absolutely no difference in learning curve. Having all the extra tracks is a major plus. The issue with tape track width is, in my opinion, very minor. You can get...

    Drum machine

I second the Boss DR-770 suggestion, though many folks are going the sample/loop route these days. If you prefer to program it all yourself, having the Boss unit can be a boon as it is pretty versatile. Programming it is relatively easy, too. I've used that unit exclusively for years and can get...

    Tascam 488 problem

Link to the manual Try looking here: http://home.comcast.net/~rbbyrd/488manual.pdf This is a pretty big file, and it's for the mkII. (I'm not sure if yours is the original model 488 or the mkII, but the same principles apply.)

    Tascam 488 MK-II - I just lost track 5

Clean and demagnetize first Try cleaning and demagnetizing the heads before considering other alternatives. Tracks on an 8-track cassette multitrack are about the size of the tip of a #2 pencil, if not smaller. It doesn't take much excess tape oxide or dust to completely block off a track or...

    Boss DR-770 tempo problems

Tempo change I struggled with this too, then discovered how to do it. When you are in song mode, you simply write those measures that you want to be at different tempos as different songs and then chain them together. All of this is done internally in the DR-770. Let's say I have a song in 4/4...

Connecting two (2) 424 MKII porta's together to make an 8 track.

Why don't you... ... just record into Cool Edit Pro directly? It's a multitracker! I take it you must already have a soundcard that you'd be using to transfer the tracks out of your 4-track and into your computer, so why not just record directly into CEP? You'd have up to 128 tracks to work...

Tascam 488 record 8 tracks at once?

The 488 MKII can only record 4 tracks at a time. Tascam made a few other 8-track cassete machines that COULD record on all 8 tracks at once (the 688 & the 238 syncassette). That said, you can record your whole band playing live onto 4 tracks. There are 20 inputs on the 488, which means you can...
