    Help with mixing/mastering

Thanks for the mix kip4 and for your effort D_Vincent :) I like how it sounds more balanced, though I agree, the reverb is a bit much for me. You'll probably cringe when I tell you how I'm recording... I am recording into a BOSS BR-600 and exporting to Reaper to do my mixing. Cheers, Michael

    Help with mixing/mastering

Here are the 2 separate tracks (guitar and vocals) for anyone to try mixing: http://www.mc-photography.net/music/Rocking_Chair_1.wav http://www.mc-photography.net/music/Rocking_Chair_2.wav Cheers, Michael

    Help with mixing/mastering

Thanks for the comments :) This was recorded guitars and vocals at the same time. I was able to get very little bleed on the vocal mic, but some on the guitar mic. Slight EQ to both vocals and guitar, slight delay panned right for the guitar, and light reverb added to both tracks. I will post...

    Help with mixing/mastering

This is a cover song, and I'm just recording for sake of learning. http://mc-photography.net/music/Rocking_Chair_MASTER.mp3 What can I do to make the bass notes louder? Any comments/critique on the quality would be greatly appreciated! Cheers, Michael

    Acoustic Guitar Recording 101

I've been recording in stereo (nearly hard left and hard right), but because a majority of my recordings are simply acoustic guitar and vocal, the sound wasn't quite full enough for me. I just tried out your doubling and "opposite" panning technique, and I must say I'm astounded by the...

    Acoustic Guitar Recording 101

WhiteStrat, I want to thank you for this contribution. I found this track-by-track explanation to be extremely helpful. It really shows how a track can be built upon to have that "lushness" as you say. I'm sure you've heard this a lot already, but excellent playing and recording. Cheers, Michael

Wow, this is fantastic! Any comment on technique used, processing? Cheers, Michael

    Acoustic Guitar Test Recording

Thank you all for your critiques. I'll back off the compression a bit (still figuring things out obviously...). For my purposes, I'm generally only going to be recording the acoustic track accompanied by a vocal. I believe if I upgrade the mics/pre, I should see an improvement. Agree? Or at...

    Acoustic Guitar Test Recording

Hello all, I've been experimenting a lot with recording my acoustic guitars and would like some feedback on the quality of it. Nothing special to it, just a recording of simple chords. www.mc-photography.net/Guitar_Test.mp3 Equipment is as follows (prepared to be appalled...): MXL990/991 >...

    Oasis Tune

Well done! I was expecting Liam's voice to come up then remembered this was a cover =) The vocal seems just a bit hot, as someone mentioned already. Just a very bit dialed back I think will fit better. I think even then, it's being nit-picky.

    Guitars in a commercial music!

No, it is not. If you were being sarcastic, then my fault :o Cheers!

Total noob first ever record & mix, gulp....

Hi Peter, I, too, am new to recording so take my opinion as a simple third-party opinion, rather than "expertise" :o The guitar has a nice clear sound, not boomy or too bright. I do like the reverb/delay on the vocals, but I think it might be a bit too long, as it drags on particularly at the...

    first mix

Very well done! The mix sounds commercially made (to my new ears FWIW) and definitely sounds up to par in comparison to the many, many trance/techno/electronica music I listen to. The vocals sit very well in the mix and the overall mix is clear. Nicely done, mate!

    First Mix

Thanks to everyone for the kind words :) I'll definitely go back and try to bring some more brightness into the guitar and see what I can come up with. I'll post an updated version soon. Thanks again! Michael

    First Mix

Thank you for your kind words :) Perhaps I chose the wrong word. This isn't my VERY first mix, but rather the best of many, many attempts at arriving here. So this is the "first mix" in which I believe I made it as good as I can by myself. So now, I turn to the community for opinions and...
