The takeup reel on my Tascam 246 was slipping, so I’m replacing the idler tires. In the process, I noticed a sort of rubber coating on the edge of the reels where they contact the idler tires. Is this rubber supposed to be there or is this rubber and goo from being in contact with the idler...

Is it necessary to lubricate the head "slider" mechanism on a cassette desk, i.e., the plate on which the head slides in and out of the cassette tape path? I have my TASCAM 246 opened up to replace belts and other rubber parts, and I wonder if I need to do anything with this "slider" mechanism...
