    Hum/buzz question on Tele

First, I would not ground the the neck pickup to the foil, I would solder it to the back of the volume pot, which is where I would also ground the bridge pickup. I would ground the foil with a wire to the back of the volume pot, and solder a wire from the back of the tone pot to it also ; all...

    Gotta love it

There are several levels of guitars with the "Hondo" name. The ones that are Hondo II 's are the junky plywood variety, I believe made in Korea (before they were making relatively good, decent quality guitars), Indonesia or some other asian country. They were entry level at best. The ones that...

Any way to dampen a potentiometer?

Some pots have some thick grease-like stuff in the "bottom" (the casing), that creates physical resistance against the bottom of the rotating part, which I believe has an integral piece made just for that purpose. I've seen those types used on amps, but never guitars. Thick grease on the shaft...

    Truss rod adjustments...? maybe?

I have a 2 fulcrum screw trem guitar, recently I noticed the strings were a bit higher than they should be. Turns out the threaded bushings that are friction fit into the wood had risen up out of their holes just a little bit, probably around 1/32", maybe due to the dry winter weather...? For...

    Stupid pickup question

DiMarzio Bluesbucker. My favorite neck pickup for LP's, and mahogany neck + body guitars. Its intended to be P-90ish with both coils, when split, its more strat-like and does not lose volume. Only one coil is actually active, the 2nd coil does not have magnets. It sounds good to me either way.

    Anyone else Underwhelmed AC4TV10

Yes, I was underwhelmed. There are apparently 2 versions of that amp - the one that guys on gear forums buy and rave about, and the one I and many other players tried and did not like....that's the one that has a puny output tranny which causes it to sound like every other low cost production...

    Vox Ac15cc1

Congrats ! I have one with the Celestion Blue speaker, I really like it. I think its designed as more of an "AC30CC Junior" and is not intended to be like the 15's of old...whatever. IMO it has a nice Vox vibe to it, and for what they go for used, its a great bang for the buck. Its pretty...

    Peavey Renown400 Knobs

Did you get my PM reply? I sent a couple, but they aren't showing up in my "Sent" folder...

    Peavey Renown400 Knobs

Send me your address in a PM. Actually, 95 db @ 1 watt 1 meter is low efficiency as far as 12" guitar speakers go. I think most Celestions are in the 100 db range, give or take 1 db, and the Blue is 103db. The 1 watt 1 meter 1000hz is the standard spec, I have never seen a spec for 5, 10, 20...

    Peavey Renown400 Knobs

Update - I don't have the chassis, I have the circuit board with the rear aluminum strip and large heat sink, which has the back panel. The "pan" and the faceplate I think I threw away. The amp didn't work.... The best thing I got out of it were the 12" Scorpion speakers. One sounds better than...

    Peavey Renown400 Knobs

I used the 2x12 cab for another amp, a Peavey Bravo (2xEL84), which I modded heavily, and repeated on a 2nd one that is still in its original 1x12 cab. I did use some of the pots, along with some caps and whatever that I scavenged for the Bravos, and a few other projects/repairs. What I have...

    Peavey Renown400 Knobs

Which ones do you need? I cannibalized a Renown that a guy gave me a few years back, I probably still have at least some of them, since I'm a packrat.

    Worth Upgrading Electronics?

According to internet tone lore, anything you change will make a difference, including changing the copper wire for other copper wire of a different gauge. Some guys even believe that cloth covered wire is part of "vintage tone".... Most seem to believe that the dime sized import pots are...

Advice for First Real Amp: Best bedroom tube amp.

Everyone has their own definition of what "bedroom level" is, I guess. IMO most small tube amps, like 5 watts, turned up loud enough to where they start sounding decent are going to be louder than my perception of "bedroom level". What I do for practice is use headphones and a desktop modeler...

I don't get this whole "solder" thing.

Most guys do the mechanical connection thing - put the wire thru the hole in the terminal, bend it around so it stays there, then solder the whole thing. Nothing wrong with that at all. I am the exception to the rule with the way I usually do the pre-tinning (but not always), there is a little...
