You guys can record to two tapes, one used the other one new, and see if you hear any differences, lost of high, mid or low bands? I dunno that's what we do around here, spectral analizing in the computer at playback? :)

..and the best way to get any drum sound, or any sound at all, is to experiment moving the microphone(s) arounds until it sounds good. You can record a full Orquestra with two mics (stereo) or a single mic (mono) Good luck!
