To me the vocal definitely is more audible, but doesn't feel like its fitting into the mix now...
Hey everyone posting my first real finished mix to get some feedback. 3 piece band with an indie sound but everything was tracked independently and mixed using mostly UAD plug ins.
My concerns are how the bottom end sounds (muddy? to little bass?) and the vocal levels (should they be higher?)...
Hey does anyone know of any good master engineers who would also come back with suggestions for your mix? For example if I submit a track and the engineer thinks it'll sound better if the vocals need less reverb are there good engineers who will offer up the advice as well?
+1 to the snare sound needing some work, maybe try adding in a sample or select a different sample with a little more crack and then lessen the reverb. The vocals are to washed out and get lost in the mix, that amount of reverb doesn't work even as a stylistic choice, try taking it down a notch...
Before turning to compression look into something called gain automation. You can separate the louder peaks into there own separate clip and individually reduce the gain of those parts. Then when you run it into a compressor the compressor won't have to do all the work and your audio won't sound...
