i used to work on cubase for years and i loved it! since 2014 working with logic and loving it even more

if the mp3 source is really bad than yes, it will be an issue. often times you cant really tell the difference

i tend to cut the lows on almost every channel. Don't be afraid to do so, cleaning unnecessary frequencies will give a lot more headroom when you get to the final stage of the production (Mastering).
