    Karma K10's as drum overheads

Thanks for the extremely helpful replies. The kick drum sounds decent, but not great. I think that right now I've got the batter tuned too high - I should probably tune it down to just past wrinkles to get more attack. I'm also using a felt beater. Right now, I agree that the problem appears...

    Karma K10's as drum overheads

Thanks for the comments. I did think that the Kickball sounded a little bit weird. I placed it right outside of the bass drum hole, with default settings and nothing changed. Any suggestions of what I should do to change that? Here's a picture of the placement...

Recording drums with 3 mics: Karma K-10 (x2) + Blue Kickball

Yup, thats definitely the one. Have you got any recording equipment yet? I'd love to hear what that thing sounds like (along with the rest of your kit).. Great stuff S

    Karma K10's as drum overheads

Hello All, I know there's been some interest in Karma mics on these forums, but I haven't seen much about the K-10s. My interest in them stemmed from their use as drum overheads. Given their low price, I just took a risk and pulled the trigger on them, and here's the result...

    Fifty dollar mics

You can't buy them in singles, but I think that two Karma K-10s for $99 is a stellar deal. The kick drum mic is the $49 Blue Kickball, which I think also qualifies for this thread :) On the way is a GLS Audio ES57 ($29)... Seems like this is my kind of thread apparently. S

Recording drums with 3 mics: Karma K-10 (x2) + Blue Kickball

Thanks for the very positive comments! I was very pleasantly surprised at what was possible with only $150 in mics. I've always been the guy that finds products at that point of maximal value for each dollar spent. DrJosh - was it you that recently posted that very nice piccolo snare on PDF...

Recording drums with 3 mics: Karma K-10 (x2) + Blue Kickball

Hello All, I wanted a simple way to record my drums for cheap. The idea of close-miking everything seemed like overkill for my needs, and I've heard that John Bonham's recordings were often done with only 4 mics. Based on my shopping around, it seemed like the Blue Kickball was the cheapest...

    Presonus FP10

Yes, the Firepod/FP10 works with Garage Band, and yes, you can record 8 tracks simultaneously. Thats the setup my band is using currently, and it sounds and works great! S

Blue "ball" mics? On sale-ish, any good?

I too would love to hear any trick you have regarding the Kick Ball. I have one myself, and for a newbie recording drums, it sounds great to my ears on kick drum. You can hear a sample of my first attempt with it here: https://homerecording.com/bbs/showpost.php?p=3050175&postcount=1 S

Which company's drums do you play? VOTE

I bought some Keller shells that were drilled and edged already (by John from American Drum Parts), some nice single-point lugs and quality hardware, and assembled the drums myself (including a nice natural tung oil finish). Sounds better than any retail kit I've ever heard, for significantly...

Cymbals brands - what are everyones thoughts???

I'm partial to the handmade Turkish cymbals. Surprisingly well-priced, and they have a complexity that no mass-produced cymbal can really touch. That being said, I have cymbals from Sabian and Zildjian, in addition to Bosphorus and Istanbul. Check out the Cymbals Only website...

    Evans vs Remo

I personally can't tell much of a difference between the different brands when they're making essentially the same product (e.g., G1 = Ambassador = Satin Texture Coated). That being said, there are certain offerings from certain companies that are particularly outstanding... the Superkick I +...
