Hello,
About a year and 1/2 ago, my wife's students recorded a bunch of midi only songs (using Kurzweil PC88, US-224 and Cakewalk HomeStudio). I converted all the midi tracks to audio and then created the wav files and then created a CD.
Now, I want to do it again and I seemed to have...
Major Tom,
Change it to "Major Genius" -- modifying the audio to use MME made the "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth" appear in the Midi Output list -- very cool.
Thanks,
Kevin
Tom,
Thanks for the input. I guess the underlying issue may be that I don't have any external midi device hooked up at all. I was hoping to just use any internal software midi "device" that was already supplied by the default sound card.
I can play *.mid files via windows media player and...
Hello,
I have an Dell Inspiron laptop that came standard with a ESS maestro PCI type soundcard that seems to have a wdm based midi driver installed. When I launch HS2002 (just installed) it says no midi output selected. I go to the midi input output screen and there are no inputs to choose...
I did go through the entire (small) printed manual and tutorials and then searched the help file for discussions on mixing audio and midi -- didn't really see anything that discussed that situation. Is Garrigus' Cakewalk Power a book that can be found at, say Barnes and Noble?
Thanks,
Kevin
I forgot to turn off the virus protection and I didn't think about disabling the built in sound card. ... and irq conflicts is another thing to look at. Thanks for the inputs.

Moskus,
It seems logical that it seems that easy! I guess those crashes through me off.
I am using the Tascam 224 for midi and audio recording. I downloaded the latest tascam drivers and maybe I should go look for the latest cakewalk updates -- maybe my crashes are due to some known issue...
Hello,
I am new at this so I don't expect any detailed answers -- maybe "look here in the help files" or "read this web article at ..." would be a good enough answer for now.
I was playing with a new project and was trying to record a midi track and then record an audio track and I realized I...
Paul,
Thanks for the reply! We loaded one of our earlier wrk files and the stop/play did the pause/restart function as advertised. It must just be some loop setting is activated in tutorial #1 that I can't find yet.
I am sure that 2002 is a big improvement, it is just gonna take some time...
Hello,
We just switched from cakewalk 3.0 on a windows 3.1 machine (haven't really used it in a while) to Home studio 2002. My first impression was that major upgrades do not always mean major improvements in usability (at the moment I think the track view in 3.0 makes more sense than the...
Hello,
After reading, studying (and consulting finances) it seems that I am leaning towards the Tascam 224 USB as a midi interface for a Kurzweil PC88MX and to also record audio tracks (one track at a time, maybe 2) into Cakewalk Home studio.
For $300, it seems like a worthwhile gamble. I was...
Can you directly have a mic into the 224 (no need for preamp)? I looked at the tech specs, but being a newbie I wasn't quite sure. I am deciding between the tascam 224 and the maudio audiosport quatro usb. It seems if you read the reviews some people love them and some hate the maudio.

Plain vanilla soundboard??
3.) How expensive?
I figure I should base everything on the Fostex vf-16 with the cd/r. That costs $900, so if I could get an nice external midi interface/sound card and a mic preamp for $300 - $400 then I would be in pretty good shape.
Thanks for your response...
I just bought cakewalk home studio 2002 and I am setting up my wife's PC. I was planning on getting a mutlitrack recorder, but I may just use the PC as a multitracker to save some money in the short term.
Questions:
1.) Probably will be 90% midi -- can I get by with recording from the...
>>use pc as multitracker<<
I like the portability of an external multitracker. While my wife is in the piano/computer room, I can take it downstairs and work on guitar/banjo type stuff.
