Nice! I would love to have that book, but it's in my budget at the moment; lucky you! Looks great. Just curious, where did you order it?

    truvox r94 slow motors!!!

more on 50Hz If it turns out you can't readily convert it to 50Hz operation, you could probably build something using a 220V/50Hz inverter, a motorcycle batter, and a battery charger that can keep up with it. Might cost $150 or so, total.

    truvox r94 slow motors!!!

50 v. 60 Hz Do you have schematics for this? I suspect it could be modified to run on 60 Hz.

    truvox r94 slow motors!!!

I take it that the machine has a voltage selector switch. I don't think the 60 v. 50 Hz issue would cause the problem you describe, but it will be a problem. I suspect the selector switch is dirty or corroded.

    Is this 3M worth buying?

    I'm in the "Metrowest" - near 495 and 90.

What changes when you select small or large reel on a Teac 3440?

Thanks. My intuition on considering this is that the torque should decrease for the large reel, since the hub is bigger, for the same tension on the tape; why does it seem opposite to me? And, I would assume then that if you have a 7" reel with a large arbor, you should treat it as a large...

    Is this 3M worth buying?

I picked up this tape today. He met me halfway, so it was only about a 40 minute drive for me. He really doesn't know the value of this stuff; he apparently threw out one of the 1/4" pieces 'cause "the reel was empty." The tape is all in really nice shape. The Ampex reels are all the heavy...

Nope I'm pretty sure that's not it.

What changes when you select small or large reel on a Teac 3440?

Just wondering - does anyone know what changes when you select small or large reel on a Teac 3440? If I use a plastic reel with prerecorded music that is a large arbor reel, should I select small or large reel? (Especially since I am using a 10.5" reel for takeup?) Thanks, jv

Would you buy new tape on 7" metal reels?

I hear you all on the virtues of plastic reels. Hey, is it possible to buy the large arbor reels that were used on the prerecorded tapes? I've only ever seen small arbor plastic reels sold.

Would you buy new tape on 7" metal reels?

I hear you, but not all plastic reels are alike. Some plastic reels with prerecorded music form the 60's are very heavy reels, and quite precise. A later reel I have is light weight, and now warped so it's almost useless.

What tape do you currently buy?

Would you buy new tape on 7" metal reels?

I would! What would you pay? For example, you can buy new RMGI on plastic reels from fullcompass.com as per: LPR35 1800' $21.50 SM468 1200' $15.75 SM911 1200' $16.25 What premium would you pay for metal reels? Or, maybe you don't buy new tape?
