Sound Devices MIXPRE II owners: KNOW your XLR plug MIGHT BE LIKELY TO GET FIRMLY STUCK in the MIC INPUT.

If you're out in the field in a work situation this is a production faux-paux that you don't want to be in if you're stuck having to explain why sound isn't ready.

Sound Devices MIXPRE II owners: KNOW your XLR plug MIGHT BE LIKELY TO GET FIRMLY STUCK in the MIC INPUT.

The Zoom F8 at least has this issue also. I'm not of the opinion that (cheaper) XLR cables are necessarily the issue. It is a severe design flaw that will not accept XLR mating connectors that are within so-called reasonable tolerances. And you're quite correct, even many "good" XLR's seem to...

    Bluebird Baby Bottle or Bluebird?

Try rental houses. Look for the mics you want to try, and rent them. You avoid putting out the larger outlay of cash only to find something wasn't what you wanted. The baby bottle is midrange forward according to advertising and reviews. This may not suit you. Blue Microphones | Baby Bottle...

    Constant dropouts in multitrack recording

I am glad to hear this. I really had not thought of it. This is a laptop though, and I should have. When not connected to the internet, it is a good idea to disable anti-virus and other types of software like that, as well as all of those programs that try to do automatic updates. This is...

    Constant dropouts in multitrack recording

It might be possible to make Windows Vista control most of this. So the following may help: Open up the control panel. Select "Power Options" Click on "High Performance" Click on "change plan settings". Make sure "Never" put computer to sleep is selected. Click on "Change advanced power...

    Constant dropouts in multitrack recording

Are you up to going to Dell support and figuring out the BIOS in short order? You could have that part of this procedure going in about 15 minutes. Then we could proceed from there. I may not respond quite as fast, but at least you'll be that much further along. Whatever you change...

    Constant dropouts in multitrack recording

I would take this one step at a time. Don't throw another drive at the machine just yet. That internal drive could end up being faster than trying to push data over a firewire or usb buss to a quicker hard drive. The firewire or USB busses would be the bottleneck. Work on making the machine...

    Constant dropouts in multitrack recording

Yes, disable the variable speed control. It would be in the BIOS. You want the full speed available at all times for the audio processing. There is no time for it to "ramp up". The 2 main drawbacks are battery life before needing recharged (but you have it plugged in anyway most of the...

    Constant dropouts in multitrack recording

    1. Is this a laptop used by several people and/or logged into under various names? Instead of switching users, which can leave processes running if I am not mistaken; try fully logging out every user and shutting down all other applications before starting up your "session". 2. It is obvious...

Convolution does not completely capture most of these reverbs. It also does not capture true left/right stereo processing. I'm not saying these impulses are not usable, but I've not heard impulses really sound like whatever reverb box they've attempted to capture. Convolution can be downright...

    Constant dropouts in multitrack recording

You are now approaching this in a very vague manner, somewhat glossing over things (except for the info concerning which Cubase version you are running). Things are moving along in little spurts that are not going anywhere. There have been several items listed and asked for that need to be...

    Constant dropouts in multitrack recording

I cannot tell if you are mixing up CPU usage with memory peak or some kind of memory usage. They are quite different. Explorer.exe is your biggest CPU resource hog? How about with Cubase NOT running? Does it stay about the same? On ALL of my machines (different machines for different...

    Constant dropouts in multitrack recording

I'll reiterate on this one. http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml It is quite well worth looking into. My machine is not one of the best, but it is quite adequate for what I do. I have an older machine also (2nd machine) that cannot touch this one. I often use the older one for...

    Witch Lexicon

Try out the Lexicon PCM plugins. There are many advantages to using these as opposed to an outboard box if you are mostly doing mixes in a DAW. They are the algo's from the PCM96 according to the guy that wrote/transcribed/edited the software. There are no delays, chorus, or other types of...

    Constant dropouts in multitrack recording

This statement of mine earlier, "Here is a link to a highly relevant tool in the cases of dropouts, but your computer does not register a high cpu usage", is a bit confusing. You've probably got something else going on to be causing such a high CPU usage, and I was thinking it would be good to...
