Do you use a pick to play bass?

I use a pick. Never got the hang of the fingers on the bass. On the guitar, sure, but not the bass. This is not a preference...just fact. I never learned! My fault. That said, I LOVE playing bass. Maybe even more than guitar!

How long in the shop for a Martin neck reset?

Interesting. Yes, a gap would definitely not work for me...thanks for the heads up!

How long in the shop for a Martin neck reset?

Hi... I would send it to C.F. Martin. They are actually pretty fast. And no way you'll be 'nervous...' whether it's 2 weeks or 2 months. I walked in off the street with my D45 and they tweaked it, adjusted it, put in a bone saddle and sanded it 'just so...' put on new strings and handed it...

If You Already Have Phantom Power, Do You Need a Mic Pre-Amp?

I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge here. I think there's a way of thinking that says XLR is pro, but I'm discovering there's a robust use of both XLR and 1/4". My issue was...what's downstream? Does the next element use XLR or 1/4"? I usually try to avoid adapters, if possible...

If You Already Have Phantom Power, Do You Need a Mic Pre-Amp?

No such thing as hijacking as long as we're all learning. And I am. Thanks, everyone.

If You Already Have Phantom Power, Do You Need a Mic Pre-Amp?

This is really helpful...thanks to everyone who's contributing. Yet another question...why is it so many microphone pre-amps have an XLR input, but a 1/4" output? Is it because, as Southside Glen said, the pre-amp changes the mic level to line level? And in most cases the next element in the...

    Need Help Bad!

OK...sounds like you're close. Here's a crazy idea...but... Control panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Voice Tab>Voice Recording>Volume Is the slider up? And is it not muted? And is it showing your correct gear as the hardware?

If You Already Have Phantom Power, Do You Need a Mic Pre-Amp?

I have two recording techniques. One is an M-Box...with Pro Tools. The other is a Marantz PMD661, portable digital recorder. Both of those provide 48V phantom power. If I record using a Neumann KMS 105, or TLM 103, or any other condenser mic, will I benefit from a mic pre-amp? I know that...

Calling guitar experts: Solid Wood acoustic guitars

Now that's important. We're getting down to the bare bones of the matter. Many of us get a beautiful top-name guitar, put on light gauge strings, and baby it. Play it in our home studio, for friends at parties, and for family and friends on holidays. It's a big and wonderful part of our...

    Need Help Bad!

Real quick....do you have another mic you can swap out? If that doesn't work, it's on your PC. But if it does work, it's the mic connection. Kind of obvious but I like cross-indexing problems.

Calling guitar experts: Solid Wood acoustic guitars

Try These I'm partial to Martins, and own two, a D-45 and an OMC-Aura (for recording). The real Martins are treasures. I wouldn't bother with the laminate versions, especially since you noted you wanted all wood. But any of the real Martins, like the D-28, will be companions for life...

I am a sucky guitarist because:

....because I never learned to read music. Of course, that could be a plus.
