I used to have C4's. They are pretty decent on drum overheads. I sold them and bought CEMC6's. The Peluso's are less colored, smoother, have more detail and 3D stereo imagery than the C4's. They are much better for portraying a natural real sound. I love them for drum overheads and acoustic...

I used to have Studio Projects C4s. Now I have Peluso CEMC6s. They are more detailed, better imagery, more natural (less colored) sound. Really nice. I have never had an Oktava. just my 1.24¢

A B1 and an SM57 are an excellent way to start a mic collection. They are both pretty versatile mics.

Since you already have 603s for acoustic and a 57 I would suggest an MXL V69 tube mic. About $300.00 It's nice on vocals and amps, etc. It's sound is nicely colored by the tube, and not real bright or hyped in the mids like a lot of the Chinese mics.

MXL V69M or Ribbon- Nady, Apex, etc. Shure SM-7 EV RE-15, RE-16, RE-20 They are all relatively inexpensive.

Pointing it at your mouth won't help if you dont plug it in, too. ;)

I run through the built in converters in my ISA 428 and an Apogee Rosetta when I need more than two channels (clocked by the Rosetta). When I need a stereo pair, or I only need one or two channels, it's the Rosetta.

Does anyone know how these new ADK preamps sound out of the box? Do they have a cleaner John Hardy vibe? Do they have the API vibe? I would be interested to know where their stock configured sound sits in the colored to clean spectrum, and then knowing that, what input trannies and op amps...

My V69ME does the noise, too. I have traced the cause to the connection between the seven pin cable and the power supply. If I wiggle that connection the noise goes away.

The Sebatron is hand made.... point to point wiring..... High voltage..... Class A. It's not a tooob toy like so many are. I would call it high end. It's just a little more inexpensive than some. Some thoughts by Sebatron

Who cares if MJ used it, its just a great mic to have, period.

The Vienna or Hamburg are probably one of the best mics in that price range that work well on vocals as well as acoustic instruments, etc.
