Tex, you are absolutely correct in your statement. If I was living in Nashville and tried to setup a studio overthere from scratch and try to work my way up...i do not guess people will say..damn, he might be interesting..i think they will say...what a fool :D I setup my studio in an area...

I started with a $200 samick console :cool: long long ago... you'll get there if you want :)

if anybody is interested in the techniques used...i did a couple of seizons the broadcast (audiopart) for the nfl european division. I personally had to mic up the quarterbacks, the umpire etc...I know all about the intercoms used by the teams, the analists etc.. I also did the worldbowl broadcasts

He Guys, an update on a really really old thread! Bit I guess it is an interesting one. I will try to explain why such a big console as the octagon i bought 2 yearslitterly made me money, and will make money for me for the rest of my life. I bought the baby, and was able to earn the investment...

Here you can see how my studio has grown over the past years. Funny thing is that 6 months after i bought my last console (the one in the 2005 pic) i decided to let the studio go private since i'm earning my money these days in broadcast sound.

You are confused about terms regarding clock etc. wordclock is a method to 'sample-sync' digital connections. One machines cristal is used to trigger all the other digital equipment. This has nothing to do with timecode, or midi. It is just so that the (for example) 44.100 samples per second...

my experience in running a pro studio is that AT is a company that deliveres a big bang for the buck. Actually, the '40' headphone is the only model that my studiomusicians weren't able to break within a couple of months.

I would put it all on a bankaccount and tell others that i am the only one in the world who didn't loose any money 'running a studio' That would make me famous haha

ow, and very important...when in doubt..always ask a neutral person. Most of the engineers i know run away when they hear a mix of them played back on the air. Me too...you are used to hearing that mix over and over in the studio and that's a big difference once it's mastered and even more when...

Reminds me of a tannoy 12 dtm story long ago...i bought a pair for the studio and wow...they are true main monitors...so i decided...well..lets try them in my livingroom too... oh man...big mistake..awfull! Studio monitors are for mixing in a controlled situation, hifi is for at home! But...

That is very very true, although most recording jobs in studio's these days are payed by bands itself. (but they like to sound like those on the radio haha.) Your last sentence was something that i consider very important. Looking back at my childsdream, running a commercial studio, i must say...
