    Driver problems with sonar 6

Try setting your driver mode to MME (under Tools | Audio Options | Advanced | Driver Mode). It's like the lowest common denominator for sound cards that don't support WDM and don't have an ASIO driver. You could also try the http://www.asio4all.com/ driver

    Bus Automation problem

I can't imagine that behaviour is by design. Some thoughts: - Are you on Sonar 6 or 6.2? They fixed a few possibly-related bugs in the synth rack for 6.2: http://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/kb20070129.asp - It might be worth asking on the Cakewalk forums, as the developers hang out there...

    Bus Automation problem

Does the envelope definitely affect the parameter it's assigned to? That is, if you open the FxFlange while the envelope's changing, do you see the "mix" fader move? I find that Sonar sometimes orphans an envelope for no discernible reason. (Hover over the envelope with your mouse, and the the...

Triggering a sample with acoustic Snare

Extract Timing is used to build a tempo map based on the transients in your audio. But it won't create midi events. For that, you want the Extract Groove option, which is the last of the 4 radio buttons on the left of the Audio Snap dialog. From the manual: Along with the "Save As Groove"...

    Overheads are too busy

If you have a sidechain-capable compressor, you could duck the snare hits a little in the overhead track by using one of the snare mics as the sidechain input. Or, sometimes you can get away with limiting the OH's to bring the snare level in line with the rest of the drums. Fast-attack, and...

    Midi Assignment Issues

Is the D4 definitely receiving MIDI and producing sound? If you put headphones in the D4's headphone jack, do you hear what you expect? Apologies if I'm stating the obvious, but if the D4's not generating sound, maybe it's not listening on channel 9. Some drum machines default to channel 10.

TapeOp is great too, and free in the U.S. You can't subscribe to the UK print version, but there's a U.S. version they'll be happy to ship you every month: http://www.soundonsound.com/subs

Latency: how slow is too slow?

That'll often happen if you use some resource-hungry soft synths, or a lot of FX and plugins. It's fine for mixing, but if you like to play your soft synths "live", anything over 10 or 15 ms will feel probably feel sluggish. 30ms borders on unplayable. If you are using a lot of soft synths and...

Need fast help with sonar playback issue!

The two most likely possibilities: 1) You've accidentally set the master bus output to "none". On the mixer, bottom left, there's a button to enable/disable display of the output for each channel. Enable it, and make sure your master bus is feeding something other than "none" (likely, it should...

What the hell did I do?!

You accidentally hit the scroll-lock button! (And thereby discovered a poorly-documented feature of Sonar.) And I'll bet when you restart your PC, it defaults to scroll-lock off, so that's why it solved your problem.

Anyone did in to AudioSnap in Sonar Producer 7?

I find Audiosnap works only marginally well on strummed acoustic guitar, and not well at all on fingerpicked guitar. (It's great on drums though.) The harder the strumming, the better it works, probably because the transients are more obvious. How "off" is the guitar? If it's only a matter of...

    Sonar and Akoustik piano troubles

Are you using the ASIO driver? Have you upgraded the Firebox firmware to v2.46? Have you tried increasing the Firebox's latency to see if that solves the issue?

    Drum Micing Advice/Help

The nt1a can handle high SPL, so why not try it on kick, with the 58's in Recorderman setup as OHs, and the 609 on snare.
