Great price on Tascam minirecorder, TODAY ONLY (JUNE 23, 2011)

The Musician's Friend Stupid Deal of the Day today is a doozy - a really nice minirecorder for less than half normal price. Records in both MP3 and WAV, uses a mini-SD card, has built-in stereo mics, and a stereo mic input so you can use a professional mic with it. I just ordered one...

    "Phasing" sound in vocal-only recording?

Lately I'm getting some strange "phasing" sounds from my voice-only podcast. I'm using a Heil PR-40 mic into a Mackie 402-VLS3 mixer, no mic processor. The mic is in an isolation box. After I record my audio (Adobe Audition 1.5) I run it through the stock bass filter and then normalize it to...

Shure 707A vintage harmonica mic FA eBay

Though originally used by ham radio operators, I understand that harmonica players love using this mic. I have a ham license, and I bought this mic so many years ago that I've forgotten exactly when or where. Anyway, I found it when I was cleaning the attic and thought someone would like to...

    American Idol mics

The microphones the American Idol contestants are using this year are Sennheisers that run a tad under $3,000 each: http://www.sennheiserusa.com/professional_wireless-microphone-systems_broadcast-eng-film_3000-5000-series_500434 And they have Neumann innards that run another $650. And who...

    Guitars and Airlines

Off topic, but I didn't know where else to put this, and you'll LOVE it, guaranteed: A musician named Dave Carroll recently had difficulty with United Airlines. United apparently damaged his treasured Taylor guitar ($3500) during a flight. Dave spent over 9 months trying to get United to pay...

Rice Krispies, Crackling, Static while recording...

For what it's worth, I had to crank my volume all the way to the top to hear your sound bite. When I lowered my volume to a normal level, the crackle was gone - but so were the voices. I'm guessing that with a louder input, you could reduce your playback volume and not hear the crackling anymore.

    Voice recorders. Smart? or Silly?

Bill, get an Olympus recorder. The WS-321M is a marvelous recorder with exceptional sound quality. You can buy one at Amazon for $63.00: http://tinyurl.com/ylz23qh I have a Y-adapter that lets me plug two mikes into the stereo 1/8-inch mic jack, and each mic records into a separate stereo...

    PZM Mics for Voice?

I took a recording studio class a year ago, and I'm pretty sure the instructor told us that some PZM mics were surprisingly good for vocals. So you should put it in different places, record and see what you get. Often, a real-world test is much quicker and more accurate than theorizing or...

    New Behringer tube condenser mic?

I have two Behringer mixers and they both work fine. I take it nobody has actually tested the mic under discussion?

    New Behringer tube condenser mic?

Has anyone tried this one yet? Sounds enticing: http://tinyurl.com/lql6my Behringer has less expensive condensers - is this one better than the others? One source says they were out in April. This one seems to indicate an August release? ---Dan

I THOUGHT this was a microphone....

No, that's not a bulb at the tip - it's a pushbutton click switch.

I THOUGHT this was a microphone....

Do you know what this is: I bought it at a thrift shop yesterday. I thought it was a computer microphone, but it turns out the tip of the "mike" is actually a pushbutton. The heavy base is 2 3/4 inches in diameter (Roughly, just a bit smaller than a tennis ball). The bendy arm has a USB plug...
