    XLR and TRS wall plate

I suppose you could do it that way.. but generally I would think you'd want the panel to terminate somewhere besides merely the other side of the wall. . Which means, the back side of the sound room panel has a 12 channel snake wired to it with a pigtail end at a preamp rack or into your mixer...

    Bookshelves

Rick, I can appreciate your doubts. I've personally been in a small mixing room that used this and all I can say is it worked to tame some low end problems. Is it the best method? No. Why does it work? I'm not even entirely sure I know. maybe it's the mass combined with the space behind the...

What is a decent price to charge at my studio?

You've got some OK stuff to work with there, but simply buying more gear is not necessarily a valid reason to raise your rates... for instance- say I want to hire eric clapton to play guitar on my track, but he recently sold all his gear to raise money for his rehab centers so all he has left...

    Bookshelves

A mass of books can make pretty good bass traps and add a fair amount of absorbtion- but diffusion? I don't think so... I've been in a study with all walls covered with books, a metal ceiling and carpet. It was, as Dickens would say, as dead as a doornail.

    Ebay Lowlifes

mhm, I guess that would be the trigger point for them...? Chance- <On one of his calls I even fell asleep.> ROTFL!! great idea.

    Ebay Lowlifes

I recently lost an auction to buy some high end mics, and two days later was contacted privately by the ( so called) seller that the auction sale did not go through and was offering me a "second chance" to buy them at the price I had bid. He sent it on official looking ebay HTML page with the...

    Frames for absorption panels

An old thread here, but i happened across this pic today and knew I had meant to post it. Again, this is a drywall screw cap that pushes into the phillips threads on the head of the screw. Texture painted to match the gulford. I've decided not to countersink the frame holes anymore as it...

How about these for Bass traps?

that stuff is quite similar to the knauf pipe insulation I've used to make tube traps. Although the knauf is only 1" thick if I remember correctly. I use them for lots of things- including the front corners of my control room, and the extra ones are easily placed around the studio for small...

    Spray adhesive and bass traps

I think it would depend how much adhesive you put on. In mild desperation, I recently painted a piece of 703 ( because the yellow 703 was showing through the guilford fabric a bit too much and wreaking havoc with the color scheme (!) I can say it definately made the 703 more reflective.

    Fabric to cover mineral wool

It may have fibers ( mineral wool) , but they aren't glass so you don't get the scratchy thing going on. I used some 1" on a project and enjoyed this aspect of it. it is also heavier in weight than fiberglass board which caused me not to use it in larger cloud situations. I didn't want to...

    Fabric to cover mineral wool

Is this a trick question? If you're using MINERAL WOOL there will be no FIBERGLASS fibers- two different products. Mineral wool is not itchy stuff, but it's also not as rigid or lightweight as fiberglass and I suspect it may sag and bunch up if hung on a wall without proper support. I've only...

    Stinky 703

I've definately noticed funky smells after opening plastic bales of 703 sheets. I thought a cat got into it or something.. but it seems to disipate.

    Frames for absorption panels

I've built a ton of these- some just this week actually, so here's some info while still fresh in my mind. Pine does work just fine. I also like melamine style particle board which cuts well. With fiberboard you have to cut cut the frames just under 2" to get a tight fit when you wrap...

How to build wood studio monitor stands?

Here are my DIY stands - simple white MDF and drywall screws. they have chair pads on the bottom to keep from scratching the floor. predrill/countersink the holes in the MDF. DAN BTW, I've added some gear to the place since this photo ;-)
