    Tascam 2488 Midi help needed

surjer, were you plugging the stereo output from your electronic drums into two of the line inputs on the neo, or were you running a midi cable out of the drum module and into the midi-in on the neo? If you were running only the stereo output to the line inputs, you would not be sending midi...

Adat!!! I need some one who knows a lot about adat alesis recorders please help me!

Based on Tim's response, it sounds like there may be some confusion as to what type of tape you are talking about. You called it an Alesis ADAT, but you mention tracks 4-8. Can I assume you're using one of the Tascam DA-XX machines (38/78/88/etc.)? Either way, the sticky shed might be the issue...

On the usefulness of ADAT in today's recording environment

Thanks for the link - for all the making-of footage I've seen on this record, I've never seen this. Usually the classic albums DVDs don't include any extra footage, and they never play extra content on TV. The Tom Petty - Damn the Torpedos classic albums DVD has a lot of great extras, as an...

On the usefulness of ADAT in today's recording environment

Wait, Farview, are you telling me that they tracked in analog, mixed in analog down to DAT, then mastered from the DAT to presumably a stereo master tape? Please correct the parts I got wrong, I'm just interested to know since as you say, I consider it to be one of the best recordings of the...

    78rpm Victor Home Recording discs...

Those needles are quite daunting... I know you need to use such a needle on a 78, but at the same time, I wonder if home recording discs wear faster during repeat playback given that they had to be soft to be "written to" to begin with (at least I assume that's how they would've worked)

I didn't see it in your initial posts, but what interface are you using?

    A lot of 2488 neo's flying out at e-bay !!

You can always use the DP-24 the same way you would've used the 2488. The SD cards are actually preferable from the standpoint that a mechanical hard drive is more likely to fail (due to having moving parts and the simple fact that a good whack will destroy a lot of them).

    A lot of 2488 neo's flying out at e-bay !!

I wonder if the hassle of syncing two machines is worth it when you can record 22 tracks, do a scratch bounce to a stereo track, and record 22 more tracks against it. Since I mix on a pc, that process works fine since anything recorded against the bounce mix will still be sync'd to the first 22...

    A lot of 2488 neo's flying out at e-bay !!

The 2488 neo mkii (or whatever the last one was) is now no longer updated. They are likely selling on ebay because Tascam released the DP-24, which is essentially a 2488 that uses sd card memory instead of a hard drive. There are other fairly significant differences, but that's a large one. The...

    UPGRADING 2488 FROM 80 to 160 GB ??

When did you buy your 2488? If it was recent, it may already have a 160 in it. I bought one a year ago which still had 80GB written on the box, but the machine itself had a 160GB drive in it. I'd check the total partition sizes to see. If you've got an 80GB in there, here's a site I found with...

    4-track digital recorder

The computer route is one option, however, I have not had good luck with interfaces and sustained recording on the PC in the past. At this point I use a Tascam 2488 neo for audio recording purposes, and I'd like to find a separate outboard 4-channel recorder for video purposes. Perhaps there's...

    4-track digital recorder

Hey guys - I'm looking for a stand-alone digital audio recorder that records 4 tracks simultaneously. I am recording separate audio for a video project, and there are 4 mono audio feeds I want to record sync'd together (hence the need for a 4-track recorder rather than 2 separate stereo...

    Double Tracking, Anyone?

My brother and I record rock material and acoustic material with acoustic and electric guitars, bass, drums, and other instruments. Double-tracking the guitars gives it a very polished, professional sound. I've never tried double-tracking bass or drums since everything sounds the way wec want it...

    Strings matter....... A LOT.

I'm starting to think the juststrings.com site is known to all, but I've never heard of it. Now I can spend 3-4 bucks less on each pack of Elixirs. Also, nothing would happen if you strung an electric with nylon strings - the unwound strings wouldn't be registered by the pickups. Not sure about...
