A band has asked me to do a Live Recording of thier set at an upcoming show...
Whats the best way to capture the live sound of the band??
I was going to Line into the sound guys board and put it on hardisk then mix the tracks with Digital Performer... would that work? and if thats the case...
so i got an insanely heavy band coming in, and i got a band thats kind of alt. rock.. what mic should i use to track live bass and live guitar?

BIG part of that sound is gonna be in your Choice of heads to, coated or not. single or double. Padding or wide open. Isolation between the two rack toms and kick, etc.. Consider where the sound is coming from in relation to what it hits first. YOUR OTHER DRUMS. hope this helps...

Yeah, getting a pre is the next logical step, then goto better mic's then to a better mixer. Good call. That'll give you a totally diffrent sound. thats a nice analog pre my man. i have two . I am also diggin the joe meek gear too. though more expensive.
