Interesting topic. I have had issues like this but with high end cassette recorders that had worn out heads where the bias adjustment was maxed out to compensate

That’s a really nice kit. Man do I miss those days when those were everywhere. Casio and Yamaha made some good ones. I like the one you got. Hope you get a lot of good use from it
