Is there a way to make a traditional tape player record on the whole tape in one direction and also speed up the motor. Any DIY mods?

I am diong sample based recording. I want to record my own samples in analog tape. Do I need anything special? Can I use a regular cassette recorder and a good mic? I don't want to spend $500 on a feild recorder. What are reasonably good reasonably cheap options?

How do I make Fruityloops a midi slave to the MR8 master?

I want to hook up my MR8 (midi out only for master sync) and my J-station (in and out) to my SB live. I know I can buy a in/out midi cable that plugs into my soundcard - but is there some sort of "Y" cable I can put on it so that I have 2 ins and one out. Would this setup even work? Thanx CEM

I do care about sound quality - otherwise I would just get a radio shack mic. I just don't need to have the best quality. I couldn't afford the good stuff even if I wanted to. But I know what you mean - I always have gear lust.
