All it says there is Device Type: IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers -> Manufacturer: VIA -> Location PCI Bus 3, device 0, function 0. Would VIA be the chipset. If so, where can I get a NEC chipset.

where can I find which chipset it uses. I've looked at the device manager, at the package, and I tried to find the site online. No luck.

how well does the layla 24/96 work with the pcmcia adapter card on the laptop. I figure it would be slow, but I'd like to hear it from somebody who's tried it. I'm also assuming I'll need preamps since the manual says nothing about them, would this be true? Thanks ahead of time for the help.

Sorry for posting so late, but the E-MU 1212 is the same price as the Terratec, it has ADAT switchable to S/PDIF, also has firewire, 2 1/4in bal. inputs, and other stuff. Probably a better buy.

I was hoping somebody could help me, but what's the difference between ADAT and SPDIF, and are the two compatible. Can an optical ADAT plug into an Optical SPDIF.
