Do I need to have the monitor out L/R jacks connected to a monitor and headphones plugged in in order to record? .... the recording lights are not working on the 5 record and playback buttons at the right hand side of the bottom of the board. Thanks.

I am unsure I am doing this right but I know I found the right recording device. Korg D1600 I just bought one, and was attempting to do some initial testing since it is used. All of the buttons seem to work except the bottom layer of "recording and playback buttons." I have not plugged in...
