EP Recording, Part 1- Drums ADVICE PLEASE

Maybe throw up some moving blankets on the walls and foam on the ceiling if it's a bad sounding tiny room, you'll need to get as much of the "room" out of the sound as possible by the sound of it.

Has anyone here covered their ceiling in fabric?

Fabric on the walls and egg carton foam on the ceiling might do a better job of eradicating alot of the room's nastiness.

    Problem room and drum tracking!

First up you could pull down the OH mics, so you're eliminating alot of the nastiness reflecting down from the ceiling. Secondly, change the tom heads, they look knackered. Lastly, don't hit the cymbals so hard, especially the crash, as it sounds tinny and distracting.

What your pride and joy piece of equipment??

One of these snares which I own: It was the first snare I went out and bought and have played ever since, it's just "my" sound.

    Big Drum Sound

Opening the door and putting a mic outside the room can really help, particularly if you have a bathroom or kitchen nearby.

    Upstairs Studio Build - Pics

Looks good, hope it works out for you. Having your house built like that is brilliant :o

    Mic placement on drums

Yeah, either that or take the reso off. Gaffering a blanket over the open head can cut down on some of the bleed.

Using my voice in songs for things other than singing?

    Ever tried beatboxing?!

At what point do you start (or stop) making the band sound better than they are?

A pro studio will make bad playing sound even worse!

    Hip Hop Drum Recording

I don't know a great deal of hip hop, but aren't live drums just usually reserved for live shows? To get more of a banging sound out live drums, you'll need the drummer to balance the kit better (smack the kick & snare, caress the cymbals), use a snare with a tonal range close to what you're...

    Snare Sound... i want it.

I'm a Man Orch fan as well, though I don't think the drums sound as good on SM as they did on METN. Plenty of opinions have already been posted, all I'd add is that the snares sound pretty loose and the snare sounds like it might be 6.5" deep.

    let me see your studio!

That's a cute meow, nice perch ;) Sadly I don't live where I record, but I imagine my cat would take off running when I'm tracking drums as well.
